During my campaign for sheriff last year, I spoke about how every state has become a border state, even when others claimed that what happens at the border doesn't affect county’s like ours.
They were wrong.
It does.
And the tragic and senseless murder of Laken Riley at the hands of her killer, Jose Antonio Ibarra, is another stark example of how the issues at the border reach far beyond just those states.
My hope is that yesterday's sentencing, though not as severe as it should have been, will bring some measure of closure to Laken's family.
