It’s been a jam-packed weekend!
• On Friday, I was thrilled to join colleagues for Judge Dipti Pidikiti-Smith’s investiture ceremony. Not only is she a history-making appointment to the Fairfax General District Court, but I have every confidence that she will continue to ensure that everyone who comes before the court will have equal & equitable access to justice.
• On Saturday, I had so much fun at the Herndon Wintermarkt with friends like Mayor Olem & Councilmember-elect Keven LeBlanc. There was a huge turnout of both attendees and vendors, including the return of the raclette cheese 🧀 booth (very popular!). We love the community partnerships that bring all our wonderful neighbors together!
• In an ongoing tradition since 2014, we spent Saturday with our dear friends Sue and Scott decorating their tree 🎄
• On Sunday, I joined for coffee ☕️ and conversation about drug affordability for our neighbors. We all agree — nobody should have to choose between paying for the Rx or groceries or rent. Healthcare needs to be affordable and accessible for all, and that includes prescription drugs 💊
If you were at the Herndon Wintermarkt too, drop a comment below with which vendor you thought was standout! 👇

In case you missed it: today is the first-ever Kimchi Day in Virginia! Earlier this year, the General Assembly passed my resolution HJ147 to establish 11/22 as Kimchi Day.
For folks who have never had kimchi before, kimchi is a fermented vegetable -- primarily cabbage but can be radish, cucumber, etc -- that is a staple of Korean cuisine. According to my dad's philosophy, a meal is never complete without kimchi!
Kimchi Day is meant to be a fun celebration of a popular Korean banchan (side dish) that has gained global popularity... but more than that, I hope Kimchi Day will be a celebration of the rich diversity of our community in the Commonwealth.
Happy Kimchi Day to all who celebrate! 🙋🏻♀️ drop a comment below with your favorite type of kimchi or kimchi dish! (for me, I really like kimchi fried rice 😅)
Virginia has designated Tuesday as Kimchi Day, partly to herald the growing Korean American community in the commonwealth.

"We commemorate October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
1 in 3 homicides in VA are domestic violence-related. Women are more likely to be killed by their intimate partners and men are more likely to be killed as a bystander in a domestic violence altercation. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men say they have experienced physical violence by an intimate partner.
It’s very likely that someone we personally love, know, and/or care about, is a survivor. We can, and must, work to end domestic violence in our communities and break the cycle of shame that silences victims. More resources can be found at

I was proud to continue the fight today on HJ85, which I introduced during the 2022 session. In partnership with The Arc, self advocates, caregivers, and parents, we will continue to push for solutions that will allow members of the developmental disability community to have the dignity of employment and independent living.
I remain optimistic after today’s Disability Commission meeting and am grateful for the commitment from members of the commission to work towards meaningful measures to address this issue. ✨
Led by Delegate Irene Shin and a study from Senator Barbara Favola, The Arc of Northern Virginia was pleased to join many families, businesses, and advocates from around the state to speak at the Virginia Disability Commission about the need to adjust the way we count income eligibility for the DD Waiver. As the law stands, people with developmental disabilities risk losing the ability to work or have a Waiver at all when a parent dies. It is time to adjust income calculations to ensure people with disabilities can work meaningful jobs.

Today I presented my very first piece of legislation on the House floor - HJR 147 which designates November 22nd as Kimchi Day here in the Commonwealth! It's crazy to me how much Kimchi and Korean culture has grown in popularity here in Virginia, and I couldn't be more proud to ensure we get to celebrate this staple Korean dish every year going forward!
