In worship this week, we reflected on why it was important to name the values, mission, and vision of Herndon UMC. We looked at the distinctions between each, and we rolled out our new VISION statement. The vision clarifies WHAT WE ASPIRE TO ACHIEVE.

Over the next few weeks, we will also begin to unpack the vision statement and look at why it is so important for us to join together in living this out as a church family.

Join us in worship tomorrow at 10 am (or anytime thereafter) as Pastor Jonathan begins a new sermon series, "This Is Us". He will take a look at what we believe (our values), what we do (our mission), and introduce a new vision statement (what we hope to become) discerned through over a year of work, and look at the steps that we are already taking to get there as the Fall season kicks off.

Worship can be found at herndonumc.org, on YouTube and here on on Facebook. The order of worship is also enclosed.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the We Are Herndon Virtual 5K/20K in some way! Thanks to the schools for spreading the word, especially Liz Noto. Our sponsors and donors (@baresnacks, @grandinvolve, and a number of individuals and families) were awesome! And all the walkers, runners, and bikers who shared pictures looked like they had a great time for a great cause!!

All the donations and registrations will go to providing food (through existing non-profit programs like @foodforneighbors) and to providing supplies identified as needed by the schools in the Herndon pyramid.

Thank you everyone for your support!

The 701 PRAYER is the first step in the Next Level Innovations (NLI) program. NLI is a Bi-District investment in Herndon UMC (along with some other churches) to help us become even better. Once we have a vision statement, NLI has the potential to help us achieve our vision. There will be more to come on NLI, but our first step is to center our community in prayer. The Herndon NLI team with the help of a few of Herndon’s prayer warriors created this prayer to help OPEN US collectively to whatever God may be calling us to become.

Join us for worship for our Fall kickoff next Sunday, September 13, and for Jonathan's message "This Is Us".

Entering into the new school year, we’re sharing a missional opportunity called “We Are Herndon”. This 5K/20K is a fundraiser to enable children in our community to have food and needed supplies for school. We’ll think together about the importance of engaging in mission with children and families, and how blessing kids is a way of living the life of Christ in our community.

There’s still an hour left for our Drive Thru Communion, and if you haven’t gone yet, I encourage you to take part in this unique experience. I was so touched by seeing the whole Communion liturgy as I drove along, having the time to stop and pray along the way, and receiving a special blessing from Flor Hoydilla and Jonathan Page. Thank you to all of the creative thinkers, strategic planners, and wonderful volunteers that helped make this happen. It was the first time I’ve had Communion in 6 months and I’m so thankful. #herndonumc

Friends! We have set up a group based in Reston to help those in our area that are at increased Risk or disadvantage due to COVID19. We are a grassroots (family) group that is helping pick up and deliver groceries, writing letters to folks who can't get out, and in general doing What we can from Where we can. We would love for you to visit our page, like/share, and best of all identify folks who might need assistance. We are NOT looking for money... just people to help! We are members at UCP Reston and are sharing an opportunity to spread the light of the Lord in the darkest of times! https://www.facebook.com/restonVa19 Please visit/Like/Share/Follow our page!!! #SpreadLoveNotCOVID19

I have been looking for a way to share some of my talents with my fellow Herndon Church members (and anyone else who is interested) and maybe this is a good platform to use. I have recently posted a video of simple exercises to maintain and improve the health of your lungs. These exercises are particularly important during the fall and the cold and flu seasons, but persons with lung problems can do them year round, which is what I do. Here is the link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBwfCeNStGU&t=58s. Best wishes for good health, Roger Blough.
Still looking for a few more volunteers for ushering for the Connection Service! message me if interested!! :)
