Today, we have a special work session on housing. With the arrival of Silver line metro and tech giants looking into Northern VA as their prospective market and operation venue, the pricing on housing is on continuous rise. There will be many developments in the next few years in the town of Herndon alone. We are in a situation, where we need to act to make sure housing remains affordable to our workforce. We don't want our workforce (police, firefighters, healthcare workers and many more) to commute too long to work in herndon. If the commute itself becomes another job, they won't be able to take care of their own family the way they want, let alone the community. But how can we do that?

We are seeking advises and opinions on this critical issue. If not now, when? If not us, who? Please join us tonight at 7 PM in special work session and listen to the special presentation. Then, provide us your feedback, opinion and suggestion through email, phone, one on one etc. See you there.

Request to all the parents!!! Helmet safety and preventing brain injury to kids!!!

Hope to see you all.

Herndon injury law firm Abrams Landau, Ltd. will be returning to Hutchison Elementary School this year with the Lids on Kids brain injury prevention and helmet giveaway program.
This year at Hutchison ES, it will be an after-school program where from 4:30-5:30 we'll have the presentation and helmet fitting/giveaway, and from 5:30-6:30 there will be a food truck available. Our goal is to include the parents more as we've found that increases the chances of the studentsactually wearing the helmets we give them.

The date is Wednesday, May 22

At Hutchison Elementary School
From approximately 4:30-5:30.

Please consider helping us that day. It would mean so much, and go a long way in showing our young bikers the town of Herndon support we have for this important safety program.

Thank you, Stephanie Yoon

Happy International Women’s day! Being singlehandedly raised by my mother, being married to a lady that truly supports and cares, having met so many wonderful women with big heart, great minds and innovative ideas, I can’t thank enough to all the women that I have met, worked with and learnt from.

If we can learn passion, empathy, care, resilience, multitasking and respect from anyone, that’s your mom, your wife, your sisters and your friend. Happy International Women’s Day!

Very fortunate to have attended “International Meditation Day” proclamation ceremony at Waterford at Springfield Virginia with Swami Anand Arun (who visited from Nepal) and our State Senator Jennifer B. Boysko, State Delegate John Bell and Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Chair Phyllis J. Randall along with many other dignitaries.

The ever growing importance of spiritual health has never been felt before. Healthy spirit leads to healthy body and that directly translates into healthy society. I believe this proclamation can really help take meditation seriously so that we can balance our metal and spiritual health no matter how chaotic external world becomes!

Election countdown: 14 days to go.

We had a great meet and greet last night sponsored by Herndon Chamber of commerce at Herndon Municipal Center Lobby. Great turnout!

The most frequently asked question to me was what I offer differently than others!

Here is the answer:

1. Advocating entrepreneurship big time: we need to promote a culture where we support entrepreneurship, we provide platform for people to discuss the great ideas they have and foster a culture where small business owners are supported and appreciated. I strongly believe entrepreneurship can create opportunities for others and bring more revenues to the town.

2. Promoting environmental sustainability by promoting alternative energies such as solar by either creating CO op or giving people incentives on using solar. We need to help people by shortening the ROI period so that we can attract more people on using solar.

Also, we can attract more people in buying electric cars by opening more charging stations. We definitely need many more electric car charging stations in herndon.

3. Downtown development: we need downtown development. While doing that we need to make sure we keep the small town flavor alive. We need to make sure more and more people come to downtown instead of avoiding downtown due to traffic congestion. We can promote that by

a. adopting Elden Street as walking street from Monroe st to Center st. We need more parking spaces on both sides. Or,
b. By changing traffic flow pattern. Making Elden Street and Locust Street one way streets.
c. By making our roads bike friendly on both sides promoting biking 🚴‍♀️.
d. By having side walks on both sides promoting walking 🚶‍♀️.
e. By having more fun and engaging activities in downtown so that we can attract more people.

We need to support local businesses in herndon by creating an environment and having developments that attract more people. But keeping the small town flavor alive! We can do that by small scale, balanced developments as needed!!

We would like to thank Mr. Khilendra Neupane for his generous support to our campaign fundraiser.

Mr. Neupane is a loyal son, a committed husband and a responsible father of two.

Social work and philanthropy is always his passion. He is the current president of Nepal Education and Cultural Center - NECC in Beallsville, MD. NECC, a not for profit organization, is one of the biggest and most prestigious and ambitious projects of promoting and preserving Nepalese culture and identity in the United States.

His effort in fundraising when Nepal was hit with massive earthquake is always commendable. I’ve had a pleasure of working with this not for profit organization as a director of IT for a term.

About Pradip and his priorities:

I came to this land of opportunity in 2006 as a graduate student. I was born and raised in Nepal. After graduating with Masters of Science in Strategic Leadership, I started my professional career, first in Healthcare Industry and then Financial and secondary mortgage Industry (as an Information Technology Professional). I worked in Freddie Mac as an IT consultant for two years and then worked in Capital One Headquarter as an IT expert supporting different projects.

Then I started working on Life Insurance Industry serving people on their life insurance and retirement needs. This really helped me find my passion as I enjoyed being around people, educating people and helping people.

Serving as a life insurance and retirement professional, I interacted and built relationship with many people. That really fueled my urge to be around people and serve them.

I am an advocate of entrepreneurship as I strongly believe we can create more opportunities, bring financial independence, and prosperity by being an entrepreneur. I also believe entrepreneurship is not about just investing in a business but more about having the right mindset, skill sets and knowledge. I will play a role in establishing entrepreneurship forum in the Town of Herndon so that we can discuss ideas, innovations and strategies in a weekly, if not monthly, manner.

Priorities:

  • Public Safety: Through collaboration with Herndon police and Fire Department, security camera installation and community policing.

  • Health and awareness: Through promoting walking, using our parks and recreation areas, trails for walking by increasing good health and decreasing the level of stress. We need more play grounds to support sports.

  • Business, Revenue and Tax: Herndon is uniquely positioned as the silver line metro is approaching and more employers are moving to Northern Virginia expanding their business. Herndon can help more people to open more businesses there by collecting more revenues. Increasing town's revenue and balancing tax can make our town a modal town. Also, controlling budget leakages can help reallocate the existing budget to more important tasks.

  • Supporting a better downtown development: As the influx of people moving into Herndon is on the rise, it's time to prepare ourselves to host more residents and more businesses. Construction and development is a must to position ourselves into this opportunity. At the same time, preserving the essence of small and historic town is equally important.

  • Alternative energy management: Solar stations and electric vehicle charging station not only help us to set for new trend but it also helps to protect our environment.

  • Inclusiveness: The beauty and strength of Herndon is the diversity in terms of Race, culture, languages spoken, age, and nationalities. Herndon has welcomed me as a first generation immigrant to this great land of opportunity. We will maintain or even strengthen our inclusiveness in every aspect of this great town.

  • Cultural programs: By hosting more cultural programs, we will not only advocate inclusiveness but we will empower different communities. I strongly advocate to host more programs targeting and empowering more ethnic groups.

  • Supporting entrepreneurial activities: I am a big advocate of entrepreneurship. Ideas need to be discussed and implemented in order for them to become a reality. I would form a "Entrepreneurship Forum" where new and innovative ideas can get a platform to be shared and discussed. Town of Herndon can play a role facilitator to help people learn the mindset, skill sets and knowledge of entrepreneurship. This way we can make our town a wealthy town by helping and empowering our residents.
