New Jersey’s prisons are getting older — and people are dying behind bars who were never sentenced to die there.

The only growing population in NJ prisons is people over 50. Many have served decades, proven rehabilitation, and pose no risk to public safety.

It costs taxpayers hundreds of thousands each year to keep them locked up — even when they’re ready to come home.

The Rehabilitative Release Act (S2338/A4463) offers a path forward: one that honors transformation, protects safety, and saves public dollars.

New Jersey has grown stronger immeasurably over the past year because of the tremendous work of Jennifer Sellitti and the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender. Please take a moment and read through their fiscal year-end report. This is what good criminal justice leadership looks like.

NJ needs Second Look legislation NOW!

“The commission doesn’t believe that the proposals that were made in our November report are in the least bit controversial. The proposals are practical, common-sense reforms aimed at making the criminal justice system fairer for everyone," says Christopher Porino of the Criminal Sentencing and Disposition Commission.

Tell the NJ Legislature: PASS S2338/A4463 NOW!!
