Our diverse community plays an important role in our daily operations. We garner support through partnerships with the local school district, residents, businesses, civic groups and houses of worship, as well as government and non-profit agencies, to help us reach our goal of delivering services to our local community. We also offer easy access to resources and support services to those in need.

As Hunger Swells, Food Stamps Become a Partisan Flash Point

Democrats are seeking to raise benefits as research shows a rise in food insecurity without modern precedent amid the pandemic. But Republicans have balked at a long-term expansion of the program.

“Just call and we’ll be here to help…”

Glenn Vanwhy and his son Chris are members of the Knights of Columbus, Council 6284 at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Hightstown. When Father Oscar offered the use of the church’s parking lot for the Rise Pantry drive-thru, he also provided assistance with managing the cars – and so entered Glenn, the Grand Knight, and his team. “This is the second time that we are helping in the parking lot, and it is fantastic!” expresses Glenn. “It feels good that we can help.”

“It doesn’t matter who you are – this pandemic humbles people,” Glenn observes. “My son and my wife thankfully both still have their jobs, but this gives me a reason to get out of the house and give back to our community.” Glenn continues, “All Father Oscar has to do is call, and we’ll be here to help.”

The Rise Pantry is located at 133 Broad Street in Hightstown. Operating hours are Monday – Wednesday 9am – 12pm, and the first and third Wednesday of every month from 5pm – 7pm. Pantry Drive-Thrus are dependent on donations and are posted on njrise.org or follow us on Facebook @risenj.

“𝗜 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗻𝗼𝘄…”

Francisco is at the Rise Drive-Thu with his neighbor Rosa. He is a member of a local Spanish band which performed at the Latino Festival last year. That is where he started his friendship with Juan, the Rise Pantry – and Latino Festival -- Coordinator. “We are so proud of him,” states Francisco, “he is working so hard for all of us!”

Francisco was employed by a jewelry store when the Corona Virus hit. “Fewer people were coming in, and then when the Governor closed the non-essential stores, my boss closed his store. I don’t know what’s going to happen now,” Francisco ponders, “but tell Juan that I am working on new songs for the next festival!”

"𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗜𝘀 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀"

Scott is new to Rise. He was working in New York City, but as soon as the COVID-19 “stay-at-home” orders went into effect, his company began to lose major clients. Soon after, 30% of the employees were let go – and unfortunately, he was one of them.

Scott heard about the Rise Pantry Drive-Thru online. With a wife and a kindergartener at home, he is very happy to receive milk and vegetables. He has begun to interview for a new job and remains hopeful. One thing he is sure of is that when he is back on his feet, he will be “giving back” to Rise.
