Today, September 12th is National Police Woman Day. This day is dedicated to all Police Officers that are women. Roughly ten percent of the police force in the United States is women. Use the day to thank a police woman for their service to your community.

The Hillsdale Police Department is lucky to have two great woman Police Officers.

Sgt. Liz Zimmerman was hired in 2002 and has been an integral part of the patrol division for 18 years. She is our first Hispanic and Female officer hired by the borough. Sgt. Zimmerman takes great pride within our community and supports all efforts to ensure every resident feels safe and welcomed in Hillsdale.

Police Officer Turrin was hired in 2019 at the Hillsdale Police Department. Prior to getting hired in Hillsdale, she was a Special 2 Law Enforcement Officer in Westwood. Officer Turrin attended the Cape May Police Academy and we are lucky to have her in Hillsdale. Officer Turrin loves talking to the residents of the community and letting them know that she is here for them anyway she can. Something most residents don't know about Officer Turrin is that she has a pet pig named Otis.

When you see our awesome Female Police Officers, give them a big thank you!

A message from our DPW:

STORM DAMAGE DEBRIS PICKUP

Our DPW is out there working as fast as possible to remove storm debris. Please observe the following guidelines to avoid further confusion, damage or injury...

Please be patient.
Ensure debris is placed in area clear of overhead power/cable lines as well as low hanging tree limbs.
Do not place debris near gas or water valves, water meters, fire hydrants, fencing, mailboxes, etc.
Do not call to request that trucks alter their scheduled routes; ALL areas will be attended.
Get debris out for pick up as promptly as possible. If you miss the first pass, do not fret – another sweep will occur!

08/05/2020

Please DO NOT TOUCH any wires!! It's common after a storm to want to clean up yard debris, however, it can be extremely dangerous and can result in death. Consider all down wires as live wires. The damage in Hillsdale is extensive, so please be patient as service crews and public works are working diligently to clear roads and address all power outages.

08/04/2020

Stay on your property as well. This isn't a time to survey the damage. Trees and power lines are still coming down making it a very dangerous situation.

08/04/2020

Please, get off the roads unless you are tending to an emergency. You are not only a danger to yourself, but to emergency responders trying to get to calls for service.

08/04/2020

As you can see, weather conditions have deteriorated in the area. There are many trees and wires down throughout the town, too many for us to list right now. We have been in contact with the utility companies to let them know about a power outage, and they will get to them as they can.

Please do not call the police department to ask about when your power will be restored, PSE&G will get to it as they can. If you have a life-threatening emergency please dial 911 or contact the police desk at 201-664-4200.

COVID-19 message from Hillsdale OEM & the Borough’s Public Health Nurse:

We hope everyone is enjoying their summer & staying healthy. During the last few weeks, COVID-19 cases have slightly increased in our area & in New Jersey with some spikes in younger people.

Since March, everyone has done their part to help control the virus & has done a great job. We do not want to go backwards & lose that positive progress. We realize that it is very difficult for all of us, especially younger people not to socialize but proper distancing & wearing a face covering is key. Large gatherings are an ideal place for the virus to spread. Many think that younger people are more “immune” & will be “ok” if they get the virus. While that may be the case with many younger people, it is not true for all. Also, they can spread the virus to other people while not showing any symptoms themselves.

Please talk to the younger people in your home & explain that we all need to continue to be responsible, wear a face covering & practice social distancing. We understand it is difficult for younger generations not to socialize in groups & practice social distancing etc. at this time in their lives, however it is a priority to help protect all of us.

We all need to continue to do our part to stay safe & healthy.

Thank you.

The Hillsdale Police Department has received reports that residents have received packages of "Mystery Seeds" with postmarks from Asia. They come in packaging marked as "Jewelry.

If you have received these seeds, please click the links below and follow the instructions. At this time there is no need to contact the police to file a report.

Do not plant the seeds, and do not throw the seeds in the garbage or flush them down the toilet.

According to the USDA:

"At this time, we don’t have any evidence indicating this is something other than a “brushing scam” where people receive unsolicited items from a seller who then posts false customer reviews to boost sales. USDA is currently collecting seed packages from recipients and will test their contents and determine if they contain anything that could be of concern to U.S. agriculture or the environment."

FOUND CAT! My daughter found a cat with no collar in the area of Paul Court and Buff Lane in Hillsdale. He/she is very friendly and appears healthy. We temporarily took it home to keep it safe from cars and wild animals. We're trying to find its owner. We can't keep it much longer as we have our own cats. Please email or call: [email protected] or 201-783-0877.
Hello! If anyone knows whose cat this is, please message me! This is an elderly cat 10-12, neurtered, no micro chip or collar, missing some teeth, and so so friendly. Found in neighboring streets by Ann Blanche Smith school.
Thank you to our men and women in the Hillsdale police department for all you do. These nightly fireworks in our neighborhood are a real nuisance, our two-year-old son has woken up crying and running scared from his room again. Is there anything we can do about this?
I just want to thank the Hillsdale Police Department for all they do. Every interaction I’ve ever had with them they have been helpful, courteous, and friendly. True pillars of our community.
A huge thanks goes out to the Hillsdale Police Department for taking care of us during this Craziness. Be safe ! God bless you all!
The Cuffe Family would like to Thank the Chief and the Officers who escorted my dad's hearse up Central Ave on Thursday March 16th. Believe me, it made a difference and we thank you for it. My dad would have definitely appreciated it. #hillsdalestrong #hillsdalepolice #IRISHSTRONG #legendsneverdie
Thank you for all that you do! We appreciate you. :-) #LawEnforcementAppreciationDay
Where is the Dodge Aspen, the Dodge Diplomat or at least a Crown Vic????
A man was killed in Hillsdale when a vehicle he was working on fell on him Wednesday night, authorities confirmed.
I just wanted to take a moment to thank the HPD for organizing, yet another, great program for our young leaders! My son attended the Youth Leadership Academy for the 2nd time, and came home with even greater appreciation, respect, and admiration for our officers and the many departments that assisted and contributed to the success of the week. The combined efforts of everyone involved added to the cadets experience, education, and awareness of community and personal safety. Despite being tired, my son came home with lots of stories and reports of exciting adventures and new lessons that had him ready and excited for the next day. He has a birthday coming up, and actually asked me if I could buy him a tourniquet on Amazon after learning how useful it can be in emergency situations! Great job, HPD!!! Recruit class #2.....another memorable success!! Thank you! 👏🏼👏🏼 🇺🇸 🚔
Thank you, HPD, for making this kid’s day and driving him to school in style. Grateful for all you do for our town!
Thanks so much to Officer Norton for the safe car seat installation this morning!
