Homewood Public Service Announcement: we will be replacing the chiller on the roof of City Hall this weekend. We will close the parking lots behind SOHO (the entire lower lot will be closed, and the upper lot from crosswalk to crosswalk) starting Thursday night after restaurants close. A crane will be trucked in on Friday morning and They will put the crane together Friday. The actual chiller moving will begin on Saturday with the hope that it's placed by Saturday afternoon and they can deconstruct the crane to roll back out. The rest of the weekend thru Monday will be getting the chiller connected the system restarted. We will be keeping an eye on weather throughout the weekend.

Forest Brook neighbors:

Sidewalks have been requested by many of you for years and we’ve been working diligently to make this a reality. We are excited to announce that this multi-phase project has had its initial phase move forward and funding approved. Thank you to all who have supported us in this process.

This initial phase will run along Delcris Drive from Velmont and follow Shades Glen Drive to Forest Brook Drive. Look for construction to begin in early April!

The first phase of the project will start the intersection of Delcris Drive and Velmont Drive and turn down Shades Glen Drive to Forest Brook Drive.

PSA…be on the lookout tomorrow, Friday April 29th!!!

Just a quick FYI that West Homewood’s tiniest residents will be out and about in the neighborhood and near Patriot Park tomorrow!

Be on the look out for Homewood’s smallest citizens tomorrow! Street Safety Day will be running from 8:15 - 2:45. Thanks again to Hall-Kent staff and Homewood Police Department for their assistance in making this vital event happen again!

Many of you in the neighborhood probably got this notification sent home with your Hall-Kent student already. For those that didn’t this is the schedule. Thanks for being courteous and helping these kiddos learn how to safely interact with their environment.

We had a meeting with C-Spire, Alabama 811, Birmingham Water Works, and USIC today. We shared with them the challenges that our residents are facing. All parties are working to improve communication and implementation.

C-Spire asked us to share their construction hotline number: (205) 582-1009.

City of Homewood residents will get the highest priority. Please be sure to use the hotline as this will create a ticket that they will then be tracking. They assured us that they would be performing follow up calls for EVERY ticket that is filed and will not close a ticket until the resident is 💯% satisfied that their issue has been resolved (i.e. the correct type of sod has been used, etc.) to restore the yard to its pre-work condition.

They will also hold meetings with residents to discuss their process, timeline, etc. We will share dates soon.

They also said that they are working on improving aesthetics and clean up more expediently.

Does your yard look something like this? Have you had your yard torn up by utility work over the past 4-5 months? Was your sewer, water, gas line, etc compromised or damaged in the process?

If the answer to any of these questions is “yes” then please send us a DM at Homewood Ward 2 Councilors or comment on this thread with the location and approximate date and extent of damage.

This will continue to be helpful for us as the city looks to make specific requests in getting these things corrected and remediated. This has been frustrating for us all and so we thank you in advance for your help!

𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝟐 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 (West HWD):

We have all noticed the ongoing utility work (albeit, growing pains) being conducted throughout our neighborhoods. The work over the past couple months has been conducted by a number of entities including: 𝐂 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐞 (telecommunications), 𝐉𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐲 𝐒𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐫, 𝐀𝐓&𝐓 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐞 (Gas). The majority of the work that has been conducted in the Patriot Park area is being done by a subcontractor for C Spire (𝐛𝐢𝐭.𝐥𝐲/𝟑𝐨𝐑𝐍𝐜𝐡𝐪). They are running lines underground for future fiber internet. Unfortunately, they have disturbed many yards as well as hit multiple sewer lines. 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠. Facebook is NOT the best repository for this information.

If you live in the Patriot Park area of West HWD and there has been work in your area and you begin having issues with plumbing 𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘, 𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘, 𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘 first file a ticket on the City of Homewood website here:

https://form.jotform.com/210658974897174

𝐀𝐅𝐓𝐄𝐑 submitting a ticket with Homewood please call or text 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐜𝐡 (𝐂 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐞) 𝐚𝐭 (601) 278-3345.

AT&T is reportedly working in the 𝗛𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗻𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘀 and running lines underground for fiber internet. If you have utility issues in this area 𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐯𝐞 (as for C Spire) by 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 here:

https://form.jotform.com/210658974897174

You can then contact the AT&T project manager, 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐊𝐫𝐳𝐲𝐤𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐤𝐢, 𝐚𝐭 (𝟐𝟎𝟓) 𝟒𝟔𝟏-𝟖𝟏𝟑𝟑.

Jefferson County Sewer had torn up a large section of the east end of Raleigh avenue for sewer main work. At this juncture we've been told they've completed the work but will be coming back to smooth the paving work after it settles. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞.

We know this is a frustrating time for many of us. We've had the same utility work in our own yards as well. As your Council reps (and citizens), we have been in constant communication with the utility workers, seeking alternative methods for improving the work being done. Legally the City must allow utility companies to perform this type of work in the Right of Way (ROW). If you can please follow the above procedure it will hopefully help us to improve any further work! If you have further questions please feel free to e-mail us at:

Just a heads up that the dairy wastewater plant has some maintenance activities planned for mid morning that could release moderate odors.

Thank you for following our page. We would like to use this page as a way to provide updates with Ward 2 constituents. We'll post City Council meeting times, info on local projects, and any citywide happenings that may be relevant to Ward 2. We both have our own pages, and we encourage you to follow those as well if you wish, but we wanted to streamline how you can hear from both of us quickly and consistently.

As part of our committee responsibilities, Andrew is the Chair to the Public Works and also serves on Public Safety and Planning and Development. Carlos serves on the Finance and Special Issues committees. Andrew is also the Council liaison to the Environmental Commission and Carlos is the liaison to the Library Board.

For specific items and questions pertaining to Ward 2, email is still the best option and we encourage you to copy both of us on emails to ensure that we are able to respond in a timely manner.
