in Honor of National Fallen Firefighters Memorial



The United States Congress created the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation to lead a nationwide effort to remember America's fallen firefighters. Since 1992, the tax-exempt, nonprofit Foundation has developed and expanded programs to honor our fallen fire heroes and assist their families and coworkers.

The 40th National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service will be held Sunday, October 3, 2021, to honor firefighters who died in the line of duty.

In accordance to Public Law 107-51, the American flag should be lowered to half-staff on Sunday, October 3, 2021 from sunrise to sunset in observance of National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION

Our Nation mourns for every life lost to the coronavirus pandemic, and we share in the suffering of all those who endured pain and illness from the outbreak. Through our grief, America stands steadfast and united against the invisible enemy. May God be with the victims of this pandemic and bring aid and comfort to their families and friends. As a mark of solemn respect for the victims of the coronavirus pandemic, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, May 24, 2020. I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-first day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred forty-fourth.

On Memorial Day, the flag should be flown at half-staff from sunrise until noon only, then raised briskly to the top of the staff until sunset, in honor of the nation's battle heroes.

Meaning & History of Peace Officers Memorial Day

Peace Officers Memorial Day is observed annually on May 15th. On this day, the citizens of the United States pay tribute to the local, state and Federal peace officers. National Police Officers Memorial Day is part of Police Week.

President John F. Kennedy declared the first Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15, 1962, as a tribute to peace officers and in honor of peace officers who, through their courageous deeds, lost their lives or became disabled in the line of duty. At that time, Congress asked the president to designate May 15 as a day to honor peace officers. On October 1, 1962, John F. Kennedy signed the bill into law. In 1994, Bill Clinton made an amendment through Public Law 103-322 that directed the United States flag be flown at half-staff on May 15.

On this day, and every day, it is fitting to honor those peace officers who gave their lives to protect ours, and to thank the law enforcement officers who serve for their dedication and service to our communities.

Our flags are out of this world...
This one was flown aboard the STS-119 in March 2019. The last mission of the long running and extremely successful space shuttle missions. This was presented to me by JODY Singer who is the first female to be named Director of the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, ALabama on September 3rd, 2018.
A native of Hartselle, AL. and a proud by University Of Alabama alumni. She and her wonderful family have also been neighbors and dear friends to me and my family for many years. We are blessed to know her and are extremely proud of her!
