You may have noticed the decorative planters and hanging baskets around town. These, along with our native tree-planting program, are part of an emphasis on beautification that we have worked towards over the last several years. In the coming years, I plan to expand both of these to new areas of our City. We have also been working on ideas to add green space to The Curve on 18th Street and SoHo Plaza at City Hall. Looking good, Homewood!

Thank you to the Homewood parents that reached out to let us know there were issues at the Peerless/Virgina & Oxmoor crosswalk. We immediately contacted the Homewood Traffic Department, and they responded within the hour.

-One flashing light was repaired immediately.
-The second flashing light will be repaired by this afternoon (due to a faulty part).
-Also by this afternoon, the Virgina traffic light will be red at all times when the crosswalk is activated.
-Andy Gwaltney - Homewood City Council Ward 1 and I have contacted the Board of Education about the possibility of a crossing guard at this crosswalk.
-In addition, Andy and I have added an item to our Public Safety agenda to explore additional measures to improve safety.

Thank you again to the parents that contacted us. Please reach out to us directly if we can ever be of assistance.

We’ve been listening and taking action to add and improve parking downtown. We really only see parking issues downtown during a 2-3 hour block most days but this will help ensure adequate turnover of exist spaces. We have quite a few other projects planned to add spaces downtown including an employee lot, over 75 spaces part of the 18th St revitalization project, and others sprinkled around. It’s a great time to be in Homewood!
