Outdoor Warning Siren Testing

Medina County will be testing the outdoor warning sirens today at noon. This test is performed on the first Friday of every month at noon.

🚨 Community Update – CR 5702, CR 5714, CR 5715 & CR 5716 Areas

Earlier today, Medina County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of a criminal trespass in the CR 5702 area. Upon making contact, the individual resisted deputies and fled the scene on foot.

Deputies immediately began searching the area, including CR 5702, CR 5714, CR 5715, and CR 5716, with assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety and their helicopter unit.

We are pleased to report that the suspect has been apprehended and is now in custody. He was the only individual involved in this incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the public. Residents can resume normal activities knowing the area is safe. Appropriate criminal charges will be filed.

We would like to thank the residents in the CR 5702, CR 5714, CR 5715, and CR 5716 areas for their patience, cooperation, and vigilance during the search. We also extend our appreciation to the Texas Department of Public Safety and their helicopter unit for their assistance in bringing this incident to a safe conclusion.

Good morning, Medina County!

Today we had a pleasure to meet Margaret. Margaret stopped in to the Sheriff's Office and introduced herself. We wanted to give you a heads up that she will be going around the county selling educational resources for families and children. Margaret is from Estonia. She respects everyone's privacy but would love to take a few minutes to talk about your kids' education.
She will be driving a silver Honda with LP: TLD6130.

Monitor Weather Overnight

Medina County is advising that the Seco Creek has begun to recede and there will be no need to evacuate D'Hanis residents at this time. We will send out updates should we receive additional rain overnight and conditions change.

There are chance for more rain tonight. So, we are asking all residents to monitor weather conditions for your area.

We have a shelter open at the Medina County Fair Hall at 733 FM 462 N., Hondo, TX.

If you don't have to get out on the roads at night; please stay home where you are dry and safe. Never forget... There is Only One You!

Emergency Shelter

Medina County and the City of Hondo have established a shelter for the D'Hanis residents who evacuate. The shelter is located at the Medina County Fair Hall at 733 FM 462 N., Hondo, TX.

****Important Announcement****

The Medina County Sheriff’s Office and Medina County Office of Emergency Management advise all residents that the Seco Creek is rising rapidly and conditions may change quickly.

Residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas should move to higher ground immediately and be prepared to evacuate on short notice if conditions worsen.

Emergency officials are currently working to establish an evacuation center. Additional information will be released as soon as it becomes available.

NEW FLASH FLOOD WARNING!!!

Flash Flood Warning issued July 15 at 6:36AM CDT until July 15 at 11:30AM CDT by NWS Austin/San Antonio TX

The National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for... Western Medina County in south central Texas...

* Until 1130 AM CDT.

* At 636 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen in the last hour on top of Tuesday's rain. Additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area.

Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms
producing flash flooding.

SOURCE...Radar.

IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams,
urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Hondo, D'Hanis, Yancey and Hill Country State Natural Area.
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Move to higher ground now. Act quickly to protect your life. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
