Save Hawaii's Businesses!

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation is offering $5k grants to small businesses (3 to 20 employees) in “distressed” zip codes. We tested their zip code calculator and many of Hawaii’s zip codes qualify. These applications go live at 9 am Hawaii time, 4-20-20. The application is very short. If you plan to apply, we recommend doing it as soon as it opens.

You can register here: https://savesmallbusiness.com/

Also, a number of news sources are reporting that Congress is close to a deal on more funding for PPP. As we stated on last Friday’s webinar, if your application has not yet been approved, it is imperative that your application is in perfect shape at your bank so they can enter as many applications into the E-Tran system as fast as possible when it reopens. We encourage you to contact your bank to make sure your application is complete, error-free, and ready for submission to SBA E-Tran.

The most recent versions of our PPP Forgiveness Memo (v2) and Memo for Employers (v14) are posted on the public Google Drive.

IS THIS VOLUNTEER EFFORT HELPFUL?
Please note that this is a full volunteer effort. No one has been paid for the FREE, pro bono work that’s been done to help as many Hawaii employers as possible save jobs and their businesses. We have personally answered hundreds of questions, email threads and hundreds of billable hours have already been donated to be able to provide help at this level.

If you have been helped by this effort and info, can you please email us and let us know so we can gauge how much help this is providing. This way we know whether there is enough need and value to keep investing the amount of time and resources to continue this effort.

LATEST NEWS: Critical Capital for Hawaii Small Businesses

The purpose of this email is to share with you the latest information and resources for Hawaii’s small businesses affected by COVID-19.

1. Paycheck Protection Program
The recently signed Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act establishes a new $349 billion Paycheck Protection Program https://www.sba.gov/funding-programs/loans/paycheck-protection-program that prioritizes millions of Americans employed by small businesses by focusing on job retention and certain other expenses.

Small businesses and eligible nonprofit organizations, Veterans organizations, and Tribal businesses described in the Small Business Act, as well as individuals who are self-employed or are independent contractors, are eligible if they also meet program size standards. Click here https://www.sba.gov/funding-programs/loans/paycheck-protection-program to learn more.

2. Economic Injury Disaster Loans and Loan Advance

To apply for a COVID-19 Economic Injury Disaster Loan, click here https://covid19relief.sba.gov/ .

In response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, small business owners in all U.S. states, Washington D.C., and territories are eligible to apply for an Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) advance of up to $10,000.

The SBA’s Economic Injury Disaster Loan program provides small businesses with working capital loans of up to $2 million that can provide vital economic support to small businesses to help overcome the temporary loss of revenue they are experiencing. The loan advance will provide economic relief to businesses that are currently experiencing a temporary loss of revenue. Funds will be made available within three days of a successful application, and this loan advance will not have to be repaid.

3. Other Resources
In addition to the above key programs, please find other support programs and agencies at DBEDT’s COVID-19 Hawaii Business Resource Page https://invest.hawaii.gov/business/covid-19-hawaii-business-resource-page/ , which we continue to update.

4. Stay in the Know
