SAFAC at HPU The Student Activity Fee Allocation Committee, which is a university committee made up of students, faculty, and staff, is used to review funding proposals

Funds from the Student Activity Fee (SAF) is available to organizations such as Campus Activities Board, Student Government, Campus Recreation, recognized student organizations and HPU departments to support student initiatives, activities, services, and resources that enhance the student experience at HPU. If you have additional questions, contact Student Life via phone at 808-544-0277 or send an email to [email protected]. You may also contact your Student Government Association via phone at 808-544-1403, stop by the SGA office in MP 139, or email your student representatives at [email protected]. We want students to take advantage of the many opportunities that will be available at HPU because of the Student Activity Fee. We encourage you to participate and be involved! SAFAC will continue to meet and allocate funds as long as their is funding available during the semester. Request for funds will be due by 5pm on the following dates below. Complete the appropriate form, print and submit to the Student Life office in MP 105. The SAFAC Chair (or a SAFAC member) will send a confirmation email message to the student name on file that the application was received.

Distracted Driving : Take The Pledge

ONE TEXT OR CALL COULD WRECK IT ALL

April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. In 2014, over 3,100 people were killed and 431,000 injured in distracted driving crashes on America's roadways.

Students, staff and faculty are invited to try a new state-of-the-art simulator on April 7 in the Aloha Tower Marketplace Atrium from 9 am to 3 pm. The simulator allows drivers to go through various scenarios and experience the consequences of distracted driving, including crashing into objects, other vehicles and pedestrians.

Take the Lead Seminar with Mufi Hannemann: Leadership Maxims for the 21st Century

After an extensive career in public service and his tenure as the 12th mayor of the City and County of Honolulu, Mufi Hannemann is the current President and CEO of the Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association (HLTA). The HLTA is the state’s largest private trade organization of hotels and tourism-related businesses. He is also a professional consultant and the founder and chairman of the Pacific Century Fellows program. Modeled after the White House Fellows, the Pacific Century Fellows program has mentored and encouraged 15 classes of Hawaii's future generations of local leaders.

The Honolulu-born, Harvard-educated leader is an alumnus of Iolani School, where he was student body president, an all-star athlete, and recipient of the Headmaster's Award. He chose to attend Harvard University, after also being accepted to Yale, Stanford, Princeton, Brown and Cornell, graduating cm laude with a bachelor's degree in government. Following his graduation in 1976, he studied abroad as a Fulbright Scholar at Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand.

The Board of Trustees of Hawai‘i Pacific University has selected John Yukio Gotanda as the university’s next president. An accomplished academic leader, Gotanda will take over as HPU’s president on June 30, 2016. He will succeed current president Dr. Geoffrey Bannister, who will retire on July 1, 2016 after five years at the university’s helm.

New HPU Housing – Waterfront Lofts at ATM

In August of 2015, the Waterfront Lofts at the Aloha Tower Marketplace will open. HPU upper-class students will have an opportunity to live in a new student residential community that will be home to 278 residents.

Students may select from single, double and triple occupancy rooms in loft units and double occupancy spaces in a studio unit. On the ground floor, students will have access to HPU facilities including the Learning Commons, Faculty-Student Lounge, and multi-purpose rooms; HPU offices such as Student Life, Waterfront Lofts Housing, Student Government Association, Campus Activities Board and Welcome Center; and various retail and dining options. Living at the Waterfront Lofts also means easy access to many amenities, activities and public transportation in downtown Honolulu.

These sessions will help to familiarize you with the requesting process and serve as a Q&A opportunity. The Downtown Training Session will be held on Thursday, February 6th, in MP 105 from 10am till 12noon. The Hawaii Loa Campus Training Session will be held on Friday, February 7th, in AC 240 from 10am till 12noon. Please note that you are free to stop by at anytime during the stated timeframes.
