This year's first heatstroke death is a heartbreaking reminder that these tragedies can happen to anyone. Most parents and caregivers believe it could never happen to them, but in most cases, the child is left behind unknowingly. Our hope is that no other family has to experience this kind of loss. As warmer weather returns, so does the risk. Even on a mild day, the inside of a car can heat up by nearly 20 degrees in just 10 minutes. These tragedies can happen when it’s as cool as 57 degrees outside. For heatstroke prevention tips, visit: www.safekids.org/heatstroke

It’s National Window Safety Week 2026
A quick check today can prevent children from falling out of windows. Make sure windows near children’s play areas have working locks, guards, or stops, and keep furniture away from windows to prevent climbing.

CPSC Warns Consumers to Stop Using “Relaxing Baby” Swim Floats Immediately Due to Risk of Serious Injury or Death from Drowning; One Child Death Reported

The “Relaxing Baby” Swim Floats can flip over and/or submerge the occupant underwater, posing a risk of drowning to infants and toddlers.

CPSC is aware of a drowning death of a two-year-old child who was using the hazardous floats.

Wu He/Relaxing Baby, of China, the seller, has been unresponsive to CPSC requests for a recall.

CPSC urges consumers to puncture the plastic in any location where the product can inflate and dispose of the swim float immediately. Do not sell or give away these hazardous swim floats.

Did you know that children ages 5 to 14 are at the highest risk for traumatic brain injury (TBI) because of low helmet use in this age group?
Before they head out on that bike, scooter, or skateboard today, do a quick helmet check. It’s a small habit that saves lives.

Many infant seats allow for installation without a base. Some infant seats are sold without a base. A car seat base may add to the convenience of your installation, but it isn't there to make your car seat safer. If your car seat manual has instructions for installation without the base, it is absolutely safe to install your seat this way.
