One year later...

It was a year ago that you, Hoover residents, came out to the polls and elected me for City Council Place 1. I received more votes than any other candidate in City of Hoover history, and I don't take that result lightly.

The platform was simple: restore transparency and accountability to City Hall. Along with Team Ashley, and the support of the entire Hoover City Council , we created After the Gavel podcast to give you an update after every City Council meeting on not only the WHAT, but also the WHY we voted on something.

In the first month the Council passed a resolution to insure that not only Council Work Sessions and Council meetings were streamed and kept in perpetuity, but also Planning and Zoning meetings. You deserve to know what is happening even if you can't attend the meeting in person.

Despite this, we continue uploading the Council work sessions and meetings to The Hoover Channel.

One item that many of us talked about during the campaign was the forensic audit. City attorneys are in the final stages of making the official request to the Alabama Examiner of Public Accounts. It's taken much longer than expected, but it's still being worked on, and we appreciate your patience in this. I wanted it on Day 1. And I have not forgotten about it, and neither have those that supported it.

The City of Hoover has an organizational chart. It shows the two branches of the City Council and the Mayor's Office. But above both it reads Citizens of Hoover. We report and work for you. We are your public servants. Should you ever have a question or concern, reach out to me: [email protected] . I try to respond to every e-mail within hours. If I don't know the answer, I will try to find out what the answer is.

I am humbled by the trust you have placed in me. Thanks, Hoover!

City of Hoover update on lake located near Hwy. 31 and Riverchase Parkway.

City of Hoover update on lake located near Hwy. 31 and Riverchase Parkway.

The City of Hoover is aware of concerns regarding the declining water level in the lake near the intersection of Highway 31 and Riverchase Parkway.

City staff initially observed the issue last week and promptly notified the property owner of the condition. The lake is located on private property and is not owned or maintained by the City.

Representatives of the property have advised the City that the lake's overflow system appears to have been compromised, causing the unplanned drop in water levels. The property owner has engaged a contractor, who is currently evaluating the situation and determining the necessary repairs.

At this time, the condition of the lake is not impacting the adjacent roadways, which remain open to traffic.

Today in the heat of the afternoon, a Mom and her child stopped to grab a bite to eat on their way home. The child, confined to a wheelchair, was in the back of the accessible van. The van would not go into park or any gear other than reverse. The Mom had to keep the engine running to keep the van cool and her foot on the brake to keep the van from backing into traffic. She was afraid that if she turned it off it wouldn’t start again.

The manager of the Sonic Drive-In in Hoover came out to offer assistance. He went so far as to walk to a nearby parts store to see if they could send someone to help. A Hoover Police Dept Officer arrived to assist the Mom and Child and remained with them until help arrived.

Hoover Toyota was contacted and immediately sent a technician to repair the car.

You see me brag on Calera Officers and staff all the time and they deserve it. I’m going to brag on some other deserving folks today about something that has nothing to do with Calera PD.

It is not the Manager at Sonics job to make sure the mother and child are safe but he did.

The Hoover Officer could have checked on them then left but he stayed in the hot sun and made sure the family was taken care of.

Hoover Toyota (R J Coffman and Chris Stanfield) could have been like the other 8-10 places that were called and said “I’m sorry but we can’t help you.”

I don’t expect Sonic, Hoover PD or Hoover Toyota to tell anyone about this so I decide to.

There is a lot of bad in our world today so let this be a reminder that there is still an awful lot of good too. (Chief Hyche)
