Available for adoption, yearlings to coming 3-year-old geldings.

They are in the beginning stages of a gentling program. We are using a slow, gentle start with Masterson Method principles to build trust. Our goal is to maintain their mental and physical integrity during training.

Born in the school of hard rocks; strong feet and good minds! They have been born in a wild environment, which makes them highly aware of their surroundings.

They aren't for everyone, but one of them could be your next superstar partner.

Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary Tour Highlights include a guided experience with the Wild Horses, Pioneer and Native American and ancient petroglyph history. The Sanctuary is open daily 8:00am - 5:00pm MT.

Welcome to the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary!

The Sanctuary continues our Founder's dream and announces its summer season of guided tours out to see the wild mustang herds. Visitor center and gift shop open daily 8:00am - 5:00pm.

Founded in 1987 by the late Dayton O. Hyde, the Sanctuary is one of America's private wilderness areas located near Hot Springs in southwestern South Dakota. The Sanctuary is owned and operated by the Institute of Range and the American Mustang (IRAM) and is dedicated to giving America's unwanted mustang a forever life of freedom.

REMEMBERING LATE FOUNDER, DAYTON O. HYDE

"Imagine a place where as far as the eye can see, miles and miles to the horizon, you can view America as it was 300 years ago. Imagine a place, long revered by the American Indians, where the Cheyenne River flows in all four directions and eagles’ shadows sweep rocky canyon walls, a place where wild horses run free across endless prairies, hooves striking thunder, manes and tails flying in the wind. Imagine a crowded, bone-bare feed lot packed with captured mustangs, some too weak to stand. Listless, dejected, some have lost the will to live. Spirits broken, unwanted, either too old, too ugly, or too independent to qualify for the adoption program..."
