COVID-19 Update from CASE for Kids:
HCDE Facilities Are Currently Closed Through March 20, 2020
ALL CASE FOR KIDS ACTIVITIES ARE POSTPONED
Statement from HCDE:
Out of an abundance of caution with regard to COVID-19 (coronavirus), to protect the safety of our students and staff and in keeping with the closures of ISD's in Harris County we serve, all HCDE buildings will be closed next week, March 16-20.
Since HCDE is officially closed, all CASE for Kids activities, projects, lending library, and trainings are cancelled for now. The COVID-19 situation is ever changing, so we will continue to monitor the situation and make decisions about our services to the out-of-school time community. CASE for Kids provides many services to multiple afterschool program providers, program directors, teachers, grantees, and coaches. Below is some specific information you need to know:
All-Earth Ecobot Challenge:
The Practice Day event for the Middle School Competition scheduled for Saturday, March 28th is postponed. We are planning to re-schedule this event for teachers and coaches ONLY. More details will be posted on the Ecobot Challenge website.
We have cancelled the Thursday, April 2nd Practice Day event for our High School Competition. No new plan has been determined yet for this competition. Coordinator Tracie Scales will email all coaches at the end of March with the new plan.
At this time, the Challenge Day events set for Saturday, April 18th for Elementary Schools and Saturday, April 25th for Middle Schools are still planned to occur as usual. However, CASE for Kids will continue to communicate with school districts and monitor the COVID-19 situation carefully. Again, all final decisions about the Challenge Day events will be posted on the Ecobot Challenge website. Stay tuned!
The Monday, March 23rd CASE Debates Impact Awards Ceremony has been postponed. We will look for a new date to celebrate the amazing 2019-2020 debate season. Coordinator Toni Candis will send an email to all debate coaches, judges, and volunteers soon. Feel free to continue nominating people for the awards.
City Connections Grantees:
CASE for Kids is working with the City of Houston to ensure your City Connections grant funds will not be jeopardized by the school district closures. While it is HCDE/CASE for Kids recommendation to temporarily suspend services, we also recognize that families may still need the support of your afterschool programs. If you are a community-based host site or if your host site is continuing to serve families, please follow your organization's procedures as well as national and local directives to make the best decision for your students’ safety. More details regarding payment and final reports have been sent directly to you via email from our Manager, Mary Glover & Coordinator, Adrian Izaguirre.
Training / Workshop Series
All scheduled trainings are postponed for now. At this time, CASE for Kids has not cancelled the March 28th Spring Symposium. But please note, we are considering other options such as hosting a virtual conference. We will notify all registered participants by email and post information on our social media platforms soon.

This service is postponed for now. If you have any questions about materials checked out, please email Coordinator Victoria Lopez-Case.
