Crime Stoppers of Houston

Crime Stoppers of Houston Thank you for connecting with us! We value your interest in helping us solve and prevent serious crime in the Greater Houston Area. MISSION: Crime Stoppers of Houston is Houston’s only non-profit dedicated to public safety.
(17)

Since 1980, we have remained committed to our mission to solve and prevent serious crime in the Greater Houston Area in partnership with citizens, media and the criminal justice system. HISTORY: In 1976, a peace officer in Albuquerque, New Mexico, developed a system under which tipsters in the community would be guaranteed anonymity by state law, and promised cash rewards for information leading to the arrest of major criminal offenders. In 1980, a group of concerned citizens brought that model to Houston and formed the Crime Stoppers of Houston. That original investment in the safety of the Houston community grew into the most productive and successful Crime Stoppers organization worldwide. 35 years later, CSOH is often recognized for being the largest and most successful Crime Stoppers in the nation. Each Crime Stoppers operates independently, there is no umbrella organization or sharing of resources.

Criminal reform

Crime Stoppers of Houston has been following the ramifications of felony bond reform in Harris County for the past year. If you live in Harris County, you should be very, very concerned. As our CEO Rania Mankarious has shared before "if we don't curb what is currently happening, the worst is yet to come." How many more lives have to be lost? How many more victim families have to suffer?

Take a moment to watch this FOX 26 Houston story highlighting the negative impacts of criminal bond reform and the spike in crime and violence in our County.

Special thanks to Bill King for his comments about our work on this public safety issue.

Meet Nayeli Moyeda, one of our amazing education specialists! #mugshotmonday ☕

Nayeli joined the Crime Stoppers team in March right as COVID-19 hit and we were forced to work from home. Even though her first day wasn’t as planned, she has hit the ground running and is a wonderful addition to our programming team!

• Favorite thing about her job: Using my bilingual voice to assist in educating our youth and community through safety and prevention topics.
• Favorite beverage: Dr. Pepper
• Favorite food: Mexican food, not Tex-Mex 😊
• Happy place: Anywhere I can explore mother nature
• Biggest pet peeve: When people do not clean up their mess.
• Secret talent: Dance moves
• Something you wouldn't expect: I figure ice skated in Middle School ❤
• Favorite 80's band: 90’s rule! But, I like Bon Jovi.

Thank you Nayeli for your incredible contribution thus far, including helping translate ALL 2020 safety tips! 👏👏👏

¡Gracias Nayeli por todo lo que haces por Crime Stoppers y nuestra comunidad!

Houston police officer killed in north Houston is 2nd officer killed in 3 weeks

Public safety is at a crisis in Harris County. Something must change.

A few words from Crime Stoppers CEO Rania Mankarious:

I am at the end of my rope here.

✔️ Harris County is becoming a safe haven for criminals.
✔️ This is the 5th murder to have taken place in our city on Monday according to #abc13 #ktrk. It is also the 2nd #HoustonPolice killed in 3 weeks, and the 4th #HPD officer killed in 12 months.
✔️ This morning I got two phone calls from average citizens who were attacked in plain sight just going about their business over the last few days.
✔️ What do we expect when we have become a county that continually releases violent felony defendants and continually decriminalizes crime?
✔️ Food for thought: there were many burglaries of motor vehicles last year. Do you know what the #1 thing stolen was? Guns. Can you guess how many were stolen from Houston vehicles? Nearly 3,000. Three thousand.
✔️ I am so tired of this utter nonsense and this glaring lack of respect for a society trying to live and thrive.

✅ I want all to succeed.
✅ I want all to have a chance for the greatest life filled with opportunity - but every time we coddle a violent defendant, we encourage them to do more, to do worse, and ultimately allow them to further hurt themselves as they destroy our community. It’s a lose-lose.
✅ I don’t know the details around this case but I am following trends in our county that are dangerous and alarming 🚨.
✅ We will continue doing all we can and are thrilled to see our list of partners growing.

Our Story

Through close collaboration with local law enforcement agencies and the citizens of Houston, Crime Stoppers of Houston has successfully solved over 34,900 felony cases and arrested nearly 26,500 felony fugitives through its famed 713-222-TIPS(8477) Tip Line Program. The program continues to be a national crime prevention model and strives to empower and motivate citizens to report crime. Additionally, Crime Stoppers’ Safe Community Program works diligently to empower, educate, and engage the community in the important conversations about crime, public safety and the protection of society’s most vulnerable citizens. The program identifies and targets crime affecting the citizens of Houston and Harris County, and takes profound steps to prevent crime before it occurs. Since 1997, Crime Stoppers’ Safe School Program has been keeping Greater Houston Area school campuses safe by providing students with a safe and anonymous way to report crime and potential dangers on their campus and community. The program currently engages and educates students from kindergarten through high school in Greater Houston Area school campuses, including private and charter schools, as well as school staff, parents and school law enforcement. It has solved almost 2,000 school cases and removed 300 weapons from our schools. Crime Stoppers’ Fallen Hero Project protects, defends and gives back to the heroes who keep Houston safe. In the event that an officer or firefighter is injured or killed in the line of duty, as the result of felonious crime, Crime Stoppers’ anonymous cash reward of up to $5,000 will double to $10,000. FUNDRAISING EVENTS: Annual Awards Luncheon, Spring: The Annual Awards Luncheon serves as a fundraiser to support Crime Stoppers’ crime prevention programs, while honoring individuals and organizations who give exemplary service to make Houston a safer place to live, work, learn, and play. Each year, awards are presented to leaders in the crime prevention community. Annual Gala, Fall: The Crime Stoppers of Houston Annual Gala, the organization’s largest fundraising event of the year, celebrates the ongoing efforts of Crime Stoppers and the community members who support our mission to solve and prevent serious crime in the Greater Houston Area. In addition to a fabulous dinner, guests will enjoy live entertainment, music, and live and silent auctions. Learn more at www.crime-stoppers.org.

After 10 long weeks I have officially been told by the police department that they have no intent on pursuing murder charges even with a signed confession from our son's murderer stating he shot him, collaborating "witness" statement stating that Tallon shot our son, Tallon's fingerprints on the gun, bullets and shell casing and the coroner report stating homicide as the cause of death yet they claim they do not have enough evidence to proceed with murder charges. The “fact” that this man “charged” the officers is certainly not speaking for itself, however.
My son Brett passed away a year ago today after a savage beating by a person who is no more than a piece of human excrement. The suspect was arrested last Monday and charged with murder. I found out within the 2 hours that the suspect just bonded out of jail. Once again, COVID-19 trumps justice.
Thank you very much. This is such an honor and a privilege. 💐
