Bacliff Fire department is requesting citizens not to burn due to multiple residents still being without power. No burn permits will be given out at this time. Galveston county will be picking up storm debris so please move all storm debris by the road while making sure not to put any debris in the roadway. Thank you!!

The Galveston County Office of Emergency Management and the American Red Cross are opening an overnight cooling center at the Dickinson Highschool Gymnasium for residents affected by Hurricane Beryl.

If you are seeking a place to stay cool overnight, details are provided below.

Hurricane Beryl update-

July 7th BVFD was staffed with approximately 13 staff members and 17 Tex SAR members. Through the storm Bacliff Fire Department ran 64 calls in a 24 hour period. These calls included assisting citizens, lines down, gas leak, trees down and much more.

Today July 9th we are currently sitting at 17 calls to this point.

At this time we currently do not have answers to when power should be restored to the Bacliff / San Leon communities. As provided to us we were told plan for at least 72 hours - 2 weeks as much of the area is needing heavy repairs.

There are cooling centers that have been posted on our page. We will continue to monitor the daily openings for centers that will be open for cooling and charging for your devices.

BACLIFF FIRE DEPARTMENT currently does not have the means for any shelter or cooling resources.

Lots of fast food and stores are beginning to open in the surrounding areas for what you may need.

Lastly, please remember your generator safety and make sure there is plenty of air flow to your generators.

Please use these resources and get cooled off.

COOLING CENTER UPDATES:

The cooling center will be open Wednesday from 8 am - 7:45 pm, with cold water, air conditioning and stations to charge your electronics. If your power is still out, come by and sit a spell with us.

5AM: Bacliff Fire Department has been working a Mutual aid fire in San Leon on 13th street.

This assignment is still in full operations please watch for additional responding units and avoid the area.

Other agencies assisting are: Texas City, Dickinson, League city.

Hurricane Beryl continues to move through the Caribbean and is expected to pass near Jamaica tomorrow. It will continue to move westwards through the rest of the week while weakening then enter the SW Gulf this weekend.

Strong rip currents are likely this weekend in SE Texas.

Visit NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center and www.hurriances.gov for the latest information on Beryl.

As we all gear up for July 4th, it's important to remember to stay safe while swimming in pools and lakes. One tip to enhance safety is to choose the right colored bathing suit. In a pool, where the water is typically clear, wearing a bright colored suit can make it easier for others to spot you in case of an emergency. However, where the water can be murky or dark, wearing a neon or fluorescent suit can make it easier for others to see you.

Check out the picture chart below to see which colors are best for pool water versus lake water. Remember to always swim with a buddy, follow posted rules and regulations, and never swim alone in open water.
