Mexico, India, Ireland and Norway Win Seats on U.N. Security Council

Norway was elected as a member of the UN Security Council for the period 2021 - 2022.

"'We would like to thank the UN member states for the confidence they have shown in us. The world needs more international cooperation to promote peace and security. We will make use of our seat on the Security Council to strengthen this work', said Prime Minister Erna Solberg."

Canada lost, again, in a three-way race for two of the vacant seats on the 15-member council, the most powerful U.N. body.

April 7 is World Health Day.

This year we celebrate the efforts of nurses and midwives. Nurses and other healthcare professionals are first responders in the COVID-19 crises. Health workers need a safe environment when performing lifesaving care.

Nurses and midwives are crucial to achieving the goals of our health efforts:

• maternal and child health
• combating non-communicable diseases
• vaccination

Health workers need good quality education to help others. Norway has for many years supported the education of nurses and midwives.
