Yesterday we said goodbye to yet another amazing BM, BM1 Eric Aker. BM1 AKER has been a member at Station Houston since 2017. BM1 has taught, mentored, and qualified many non-rates and petty officers alike. His knowledge and skills will definitely be missed here at Station Houston. We hope you enjoy your next unit and wish you the best of luck!
Station Houston wants to wish the best of luck to SN Emily Devin. SN Devin is on her way to BM A-School and we are absolutely excited to see what she will do next. We know that all of the hard work you’ve put in will pay off, and we’re ecstatic to see the leader you become!
Today we say goodbye to BM2 Brunello. BM2 has been with us at Station Houston since 2016. We’re truly saddened to lose an amazing mentor, teacher, and overall BM. We hope the civilian life treats you good and wish you the best of luck.
Today we say goodbye to an outstanding leader. CWO4 William Weaver relinquishes his post as Commanding Officer of Station Houston, to CWO3 Troy Smith. Mr. Weaver has been the C.O. of Station Houston since 2017. He led our crew during the Hurricane Harvey travesty, the ITC facility fire on the Houston Ship Channel, and commanded the protection of billions of dollars worth of revenue coming in and out of the Houston Ship Channel. We hope you enjoy your next unit as much as we enjoyed you and we look forward to serving under the new Commanding Officer, CWO3 Troy Smith.

Congratulations to Andrew Lara on making Boatswains Mate 1st class. BM1 Lara is an exceptional leader here at Station Houston, and we know that this is a well deserved accomplishment.
Station Houston bids a bitter sweet farewell to BM2 Kelly Willis. Willis has served in the military for 20 years and retires from the service today. He was an outstanding teacher, mentor, and boat driver. His skills and knowledge as a Boatswains Mate will definitely be missed in the Coast Guard.
Congratulations to BM3 Christopher Carias on becoming Coxswain qualified. This qualification is a major stepping stone for Boatswains Mates. Station Houston is extremely proud of your accomplishment. Continue to strive and lead the way BM3!

Station Houston gives a heartfelt congratulations to Justin Rauchwerger, on his advancement to Boatswains Mate 2nd class. The Boatswains Mate rate is one of the founding rates of the Coast Guard and has gained another leader. We are excited to have you BM2 Rauchwerger.
Station Houston was greeted by the Vice Commandant Of The Coast Guard, Admiral Charles Ray. His visit included a tour of the Houston Ship Channel, and station facilities. His words of wisdom and advice were well received by the crew, and greatly appreciated. Thank you Admiral Ray.

Petty Officer Morales became Chief Petty Officer Morales today. Chief Petty Officers are the front-line leaders of the Coast Guard. They serve a dual role as both technical experts and as leaders, with the emphasis being more on leadership. MKC Morales has upheld the highest traditions of the Coast Guard. Bravo Zulu MKC!
Today at Station Houston BM3 Bowers and BM3 Dennis advanced to Boatswain Mate Second Class. A Second Class Petty Officer comes with high leadership roles and numerous collateral duties. Their dedication and devotion to duty has shown in the Coast Guard. Congratulations to BM2 Bowers and BM2 Dennis!
Station Houston presented MK3 Rodriguez with a Good Conduct award. This is MK3's first Good Conduct award. To achieve this, member has had no disciplinary action for the past 3 years. Congratulations!
BM2 Eason is not only a member of Station Houston but he is also a born & raised Houstonian. He was honored to be recognized for his service in the U.S. Coast Guard at the Houston Astro's game. Congratulations BM2 and Go Astro's !

Station Houston would like to thank Mr. John Deming for all that he does helping us out week in and week out. He is part of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and is a Staff Officer of Communications. He was active duty during 1967 to 1973, his first billet was on a USCGC Gentian (WLB-290) a buoy tender in Galveston Texas. Then he was on the USCGC RELIANCE (WMEC 615) after that he was assinged to Station Houston. He has been in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxliary since 2014 at Station Houston standing watch in our communications center every week. We thank you for all your hard work Mr. Deming and appreciate all that you do for us!
Congratulations to our newly qualified Federal Boarding Officers BM3 Carias, MK3 Rodriguez, MK2 Wilkes, and ME3 Bruce. They were sent to The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Charleston, South Carolina for Boarding Officer School.
FN Wells is now a fully qualified member at Station Houston. He is currently on the Electricians Mate A-school list. He plans to make the Coast Guard a career and knows it will benefit his career afterwards as an electrician.
Chief Mattern the new Executive Petty Officer along with BM2 Brunello the Training Petty Officer awarded our newly qualified Tactical Coxswains! We would like to congratulate FN Poncik for becoming our newly fully qualified member at Station Houston. FN Poncik hit the ground running and worked very hard to achieve Comms Watch Standard, Boarding Team Member, and Tactical Crew Member. He aspires to be a Avionics Electrical Technician and is almost finished with his Flight physical. Good Job FN Poncik and keep up the hard work!

Houston Rockets held a Heroes Recognition presentation during their Friday March 22nd game against the San Antonio Spurs. They had a servicemember from every branch. Our very own SN Devin was selected to attend this ceremony. She represented Station Houston with Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty.
This week we would like to introduce you to one of our junior members SN Eeds. His work ethic is superb with hard work as his middle name. We know we can't have him forever, but until that day, we know he will keep working hard!

MK3 Latham was awarded the Sailor Of The Quarter for his outstanding devotion to duty. He recently returned from US Coast Guard Law Enforcement Instructor school which will allow him to train all our crew members better with law enforcement. MK3 Latham has been a Boarding Officer for 2 years and in the US Coast Guard for 4 years.
Station Houston was honored to visit the NASA Johnson Space Center that included the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (NBL), Space Vehicle Mockup Facility, and the Mission Control Center. At the NBL we were able to see Dr. Johnny Kim an American physician, Navy SEAL, and NASA Astronaut candidate of the class of 2017 lowered into the pool to perform training.
While observing the Mission Control Center, the International Space Station was orbiting over Hurricane Michael as it made landfall on the Florida panhandle. This allowed us an incredible birds eye view of the storm.
Coast Guard Station Houston would like to thank Susan Anderson and Lori Wheaton for an incredible tour that will be unforgettable.

This past weekend our very own SN Occhipinti was acknowledged by Academy Sports and Outdoors as the "hero of the game" during the Texas Tech Vs. Ole Miss Game for his service protecting the port of Houston, and rescue efforts during Hurricane Harvey. SN Occhipinti was honored and deeply touched for this recognition and Thanks Academy for this acknowledgement.
