Brian Cweren for Houston City Council District C

Brian Cweren is a native second-generation Houstonian. Brian learned the values of hard work, integrity and helping others from his family. Brian's father started his own business in the scrap metal business; this allowed Brian to see first hand the virtues of responsibility and working long hours to get the job done right. Brian graduated from HISD's Bellaire High School. From there, Brian studied at the University of Texas, achieving a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with emphasis on real estate in 1994. In 1997, Cweren earned his law degree from the University of Texas School of Law. During his time at the University of Texas, Brian undertook a number of internships, including with the Texas Supreme Court, former President George H.W. Bush, Vinson & Elkins and District Judge Paul R. Davis. Brian was a member of a number of Honor societies and served on the University of Texas Bar Association Student Board of Governors. Brian is active in a number of Houston civic organizations. In 2005, Houston City Council unanimously appointed Cweren to the City of Houston Ethics Committee. Brian served as chair of the City of Houston Police Department Citizen Review Committee, appointed by the mayor, between 2000 and 2002. During his tenure on this committee, Brian reviewed serious grievances in HPD and served as an adviser to the Chief of Police. Additionally, Brian serves on the board of a number of organizations, including: New Breaswood Revitalization Association, Houston Fire Department Citizen Fire Academy, LULAC, Houston/Galveston Apartment Association, SER Jobs for Progress, Houston Holocaust Museum and the Jewish National Fund, among others, and is active in Houston Super Neighborhood #36, Texas Apartment Association, Houston Breakfast Realty Club, and previously served on the Harris County Grand Jury. Brian has dedicated a large portion of his life to giving back to the community. This includes supporting many worthy causes and making sure Houston is a safe place to live and work. Professionally, Brian practices landlord/tenant law in Southwest Houston, and is the principal of the Brian Cweren Law Firm.

A picture taken with supporters from last nights Oak Forest Debate. I don't understand why my opponent, Ellen Cohen, refuses to talk about why she voted against Jessica's Law - an important law designed to protect our children from
sexual predators.

Had a great debate tonight. My opponent tried to sling mud at tonights debate - again confused on her facts. What she wasn't expecting was my knocking the ball she threw at me out of the ball park. I reminded her of her terrible voting record she had in Austin before being voted out of office. I guess she forgot that she voted AGAINST Jessica's Law that was desinged to protect our children from dangerous criminals.

At a debate forum tonight and my opponent Ellen Cohen said she was proud to be runnning for State Represenative 134...uh....Ellen..your actually running for Houston City Council District C. Then of course you cant miss Cohen's blogger who cant decide if he wants to stand in the room or outside the room - that might explain how he got it all wrong...I had a great time at the debate, picked up another powerful endorsement, delivered several dozen yard signs...ready for bed
