We are excited to announce that one of our own was featured as an empowering business owner in our community. Jennifer Strickland is a shining example of what it means to be a strong community leader.

Jennifer's story is one of hard work, dedication, and success. She was motivated by a love for business as well as her desire to make an impact on those around her - which leads us to how she became such a strong leader in business.

What is her advice to others making their way into business? Read more to find out.

This month we are celebrating Women’s History Month by celebrating women and their accomplishments in business. This week, we are highlighting Jennifer Strickland, owner and CEO of Behavior TLC, and Grand Oak Academy. Jennifer works tirelessly on behalf of our community by providing resources and support that empowers families. She is a shining example of what it means to be an inspiring leader and we are so grateful for all that she does. We appreciate you, Jennifer!

What motivated you to become the leader (and/or business owner) you are today?

I am motivated by my staff and clients to build a great practice. One that not only provides the best client-centered service but also provides employment opportunities with work-life balance. As I got married and started my own family it was important to me to be able to put my best into parenting and family life as well as my work.

What advice do you have to those making their way into this business world?

Always trust your gut. There are lots of people that have great advice, hear them and gather all the information. But, that final decision is always yours and it is best to do what feels right for you.

Women’s History Month is a great time to learn about different women of the past who have fought hard for the changes that modern people now enjoy. Read a biography about a female pioneer. Perhaps choose Amelia Earhart, one of the first ladies of aviation, paving the way for women in the flight industry, or about women’s movement origins and suffragettes like Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony.

Learn About Women’s History Through Books:

Women in Science: 50 Fearless Pioneers Who Changed the World’ by Rachel Ignotofsky. Featuring notable women in the STEM field (where women are less often noted or appreciated) from ancient to modern times.

My Own Words by Ruth Bader Ginsburg. This autobiography reveals the story behind the pursuit of women’s rights as well as being only the second woman ever to be appointed to the Supreme Court of the United States of America.

Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly. Based on the account of three African American women who were NASA mathematicians in the 1960s, this book has been made into a major film.

Who doesn’t love a good movie?

The Autism Society has partnered up with AMC Theatres to bring you a one-of-a-kind experience. AMC is dimming the lights and turning down sound so that people on any spectrum can get up close and personal (or as personal as they dare) while watching their favorite movies! This new Sensory Friendly Film program will be available on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month. Be sure to check out their upcoming schedule to see what movies will be showing soon.

Women’s History Month and International Women's Day stand to highlight the accomplishments women have made throughout time. While there is still work left undone, these events provide a great opportunity for us as individuals to take steps forward in our fight towards greater equality, an ideal that can never be fulfilled without first acknowledging how far we've come.

This month we will celebrate Women’s History Month by celebrating other women. Consider supporting a women’s non-profit or becoming a mentor to a woman or girl in need. There are many ways you can join in and celebrate women including supporting women-owned businesses. We have provided a few resources for you below:

WE APPRECIATE YOU!

John and I are so incredibly grateful for everything each one of you does. Your passion and enthusiasm for our clients, their families, and each other is awe-inspiring! This team is truly something to be admired and envied. Your energy and dedication is what makes Behavior TLC and Grand Oak Academy the greatest ABA providers in our community, our state, probably our country! We appreciate the long hours, the tiring days, the mental load, the support to others, the creativity and ideas and compassion you each show every single day. We wouldn't be here without you nor would we be able to provide the quality of services.

We have managed this business from the beginning by several truths. One of them being, "Hire great people and let them do great things". Some of you may have heard us say it! 😉 Thank you for being great people and thank you for doing great things. You are making a difference in the world and we are proud to be a part of what you do.

Celebrating Women's History Month: Honoring the Past, Empowering the Future

Every year in the United States, Women's History Month is recognized as an opportunity to honor women for their many contributions. Women’s History Month has been celebrated annually in the month of March in the United States since 1987.

The theme for this year’s Women's History Month is a powerful one—Providing Healing, Promoting Hope—both a tribute to the work done by caregivers and frontline workers during an ongoing pandemic as well as recognition of how women have provided hope throughout history.

The color of the month is PURPLE! Wearing purple during Women's History Month is not just a way to commemorate the day and stand in solidarity with women around the world, but also as an expression of pride, for all that we have accomplished.

Over the next few weeks, we will be posting information and resources to learn more about this month-long dedication to Women’s History.

February is Black History Month and an ideal time to learn about and recognize the contributions and history of African Americans. This week we invite you to explore and learn about black history and culture.

Black History Month was designed to honor and celebrate the African American contributions in United States history. Events such as this provide an opportunity for us all learn more about who we are, where our culture comes from what has shaped it over time.
