What Is Social Skills Therapy?
Many people think of things such as having a conversation, making friends, and getting to know someone new. Social life skills and can be a crucial part of a growing individual’s life, there are parts of learning social skills that some individuals may not be aware of.

Primarily, there is an incredible need for social skills in our education system. When we approach the concept of social skills from an academic point of view, we see that there are many skills to study and work on and improve upon. The more we learn about the concept of ‘social skills’ the easier it is to see how crucial it is in all aspects of life.

Those who struggle with social skills need more support and nurture than a simple chat or talk therapy session. They need a complete breakdown of a social task into its small components or parts and how to move through those components (this is what ABA calls a Task Analysis). The parts and components can sometimes be very nuanced and complex or not always as they seem. This is where the expertise of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is able to not only break down and analyze components of social needs but can then teach those skills through different mediums...

A huge shout-out and thank you to our business neighbors for helping us have a safe, fun trick-or-treating parade for the clients! We had a Halloween costume parade this year. The businesses left candy outside their doors rather than "handing them out". We separated into three different groups and parents were asked to watch from their cars.

Everyone did great and still had SO much fun! All the costumes were so creative.

Our Clear Lake team dressed up as crayons for Halloween this year! Look at that coordination and color-matching their masks! 😁 Skills!

What Is Social Skills Group Therapy?
At Behavior TLC, we call it Club TLC!

Those who struggle with social skills need more support and nurture than a simple chat or talk therapy session. They need a complete breakdown of a social task into its small components or parts and how to move through those components.

During Club TLC, our BCBAs break down and analyze components of social needs then teach those skills through different mediums:

- Traditional Group Lessons
- Group Games
- Video Lessons and Chats
- Real Life and In-Community Training
- Modeling Scenarios
- Self and Parent Guided Homework
- Peer Modeling
- Token Economy (AKA prizes!)
- Roleplaying
- And Many More

We are so excited to introduce you to one of our newest Team Members - Alexandra Kehlenbeck M.A. SpEd, BCBA

Alex is originally from Long Island New York where she graduated from St. Joseph's College and obtained her general education and special education teacher certificates. When she moved to Texas in 2009, Alex initially began her special education career as a teacher, but quickly made a career change to ABA and began working at Including Kids Inc. in Humble.

Her 10-year career with InKids took her from direct care therapist to BCBA supervisor and afforded her opportunities to work with clients between the ages of 5-22 and across settings which included school inclusion, vocational training, and community outings. Alex and her family moved to the Cypress area in 2018 and she joined the Behavior TLC team.

Did You Know - It Is Never Too Late or Too Early

Research shows that the earlier the intervention begins, the better the results. Starting before their 5th birthday provides the greatest gains. HOWEVER, behavioral interventions, especially ABA therapies, have been shown to be effective for all ages of individuals with autism, no matter their age.

It is never too late or too early to begin making progress.

ABA Therapy for Autism Spectrum Disorders

Providing Quality ABA Therapy to Families Seeking Support

If your child has been diagnosed with autism, it’s never too late or too early to begin making progress with behavior therapy. The earlier the intervention, the better the results. Your child learns differently than others, but with the right treatment and encouragement they will be able to make academic and social achievements in their own unique way.

We work with students with a range of special needs, including Asperger’s, autism, speech delays and other developmental and intellectual disabilities. A diagnosis is not required to apply for admission (although it will be required for your insurance company for reimbursing expenses.)

We have helped a wide range of children with different developmental disabilities, so if you feel your child could benefit from our treatment give us a call today, we’ll develop a personalized treatment plan that will help your child to succeed to their full potential.
