Houston media personalities celebrated the start of Rodeo season yesterday at the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest by competing in the 12th annual Reliant Rodeo Roundup charity competition. They cooked up a side dish and cocktail that pairs well with Bar-B-Que – all to raise money for local nonprofits. Katherine Whaley from KTRK ABC 13 won the “Best in Show” award and a $5,000 donation for her charity, Kids’ Meals. All participating teams earned $500 for their charity just for participating – but this rodeo isn’t over yet!

Vote for your favorite Houston media personality to win the Reliant Rodeo Roundup Hard Luck Contest, and the winner’s listed charity will receive an additional $2,500 donation! Place your vote by simply liking one of the contestants’ photos. The voting period will close on Monday, February 26, 2018 at 12 p.m. CT. and the winner will be announced on Reliant’s page.

UPDATE: The winner of the Reliant Rodeo Roundup Hard Luck Contest is Brandi Smith KHOU. She won an additional $2,500 for her charity, Girls Inc.!

Well, our little charity is still chugging along after the disaster. Most of the damage was administrative in nature and we hope to continue our cause to help children who were burned.

The Houston Fire Fighters Burned Children's Fund initiated the Sweetheart Dance in 2014 as a way for children experiencing extended hospital recovery stays due to burn injuries to feel beautiful, have fun and just be kids.

The dance, which coincides with burn awareness week and Valentine's Day, is held for the benefit of patients in recovery at Shriners Hospitals for Children - Galveston. Patients are able to select special outfits, have their hair and makeup fixed by professionals, and are treated to sweet treats from a local bakery and restaurant. A DJ plays music for the big dance, and decorations transform the cafeteria into a pink and red wonderland. Patients and families can take pictures in the photo booth and everyone walks away with goody bags.

Children, young and old, and parents too, dance with the firefighters who come dressed in their uniforms. The dance, now in its third year, allows children to be just that - children. To dance, smile and be their beautiful selves. Thank you to our many supporters for helping to make this very special event possible. A very special thank you to Brittany Todd of Rise Cupcakes and to Kara Sanchez of Bobby Pins and Blush for providing their time and service at no cost.
