Highlight of the day! Baby Alex learned to walk today at A Shelter for Cancer Families. Please continue to pray for his sweet mom Jasmine whom we met when she was pregnant with baby Alex. We love our ASCF families in residence. Thank you for making moments like this possible. #cancer #cancerfamilies #texasmedicalcenter
As we continue our quest to shine a light on childhood cancer this month, we are so grateful that our Drake location has allowed us the opportunity to create an environment that embraces the individuals that walk through our doors and into our hearts each month. Providing a “home away from home” to a little heart fighting a big battle is a privilege and treasure the opportunity to know them, care for them, and love them.

We know the pandemic hasn’t been easy on students, teachers nor parents but imagine navigating all of this with CHILDHOOD CANCER! Childhood cancer stops for no pandemic, no hurricane...nothing. So must we continue to provide critical support to the families navigating cancer in these challenging times.
A huge thank you to the students, teachers and faculty at Divine Savior Academy in Sienna for your continued support. There is no resource more valuable than our children. They are more precious than GOLD.
Divine Savior Academy (DSA), you’ve been GOLD RUSHED! We can’t wait to see where you take our “golden herd” next in an effort to raise both funds and awareness for families impacted by childhood cancer.

Jasmine’s Story
A special thank you from Jasmine and three-year old Tommy. Jasmine was diagnosed with cancer in her 4th month of pregnancy requiring her to endure chemo while pregnant. Fortunately Houston is a leader in providing such cancer care and baby Alexander was born healthy and thrives under A Shelter for Cancer Families’ roof while Mom continues to receive care in Houston. Thank you Jasmine for sharing a little bit of your story and thank you Tommy for bringing a smile to our faces during this difficult time. #cancer #cancerfamilies #cancerandpregnancy #Houston #TexasMedicalCenter #triplenegativebreastcancer #MoreThanHousing
Happy Mother’s Day to all those who mother others especially our ASCF families. To those in the midst of treatment, those celebrating survivorship and those who grieve the loss of a mother or child, we recognize this day can be bittersweet. Please know while we continue to socially distance for your protection, it doesn’t mean we aren’t thinking about you. We hope you enjoy the “virtual flowers” lovingly placed on each of our ASCF moms-in-residence’s windows this morning by our own ASCF “house mom” Tiffany. We love you. #happymothersday #MoreThanHousing #cancer #cancerfamilies #cancermoms #Houston #TexasMedicalCenter #CelebratingInTheMidstOfCancer #Navigation #Covid19 #2020
Caring for cancer families during a pandemic
Cancer is not canceled. Our team at A Shelter for Cancer Families is essential and we are doing everything we can to care for the families we serve even if at a distance. Today hearts were placed on every window at our property with the message facing inward to our immune compromised families. Additionally, beautiful spring wreaths made by NCL volunteers now brighten every door. #MoreThanHousing #Cancer #CancerFamilies #COVID19 #TexasMedicalCenter #texaschildrenscancercenter #mdandersoncancercenter #mdandersonchildrenscancerhospital @ A Shelter for Cancer Families
Making a no sew mask, EASY.
Many of our friends without cancer have shared with us that you don’t want to wear a mask because you want to save them for someone who is in more need. While in theory, that sounds great, the issue is your mask protects those in need. Likewise, my mask protects you. It is true we want to save hospital grade N95 masks for our healthcare providers but IF you MUST get out of your home for something essential, please cover your nose and mouth in an effort to help protect others. This simple “mask” takes less than a minute to “make” and while not 100% effective can significantly cut down on the spread of your droplets getting into the air where they may possibly be inhaled by someone else. This ONLY works if we ALL continue to social distance, stay home unless we MUST leave home and cover our mouths and noses. Again, the majority of the spread of this virus right now is being spread by others in our community who have mild to no symptoms of the virus.
Just because A Shelter for Cancer Families’ Tacos & Tunes is canceled doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some pure goodness provided compliments of our Heral family. This beautiful family came to ASCF from Hawaii. Larry wrote this beautiful song for his lovely wife Lisa who is currently seeking cancer care here. Please keep the Herals and all of the families we serve in your thoughts and prayers. #MoreThanHousing #Cancer #CancerFamilies
Musicians Jenna & Seth / Him + Her Worship began writing this song in the midst of their own family’s cancer storm. They completed it within days of their loved one finding healing on the other side of heaven. Today they shared it with the Muyshondt family in a private concert at home. Thank you to each of you who continue to pray for our beloved Pipe & his family as they stand tall in the midst of this impossible cancer storm. Please also keep Jenna & Seth in your prayers as they continue to share the hope & peace they have found through their beautiful music ministry. #TodosSomosPipe #MoreThanHousing #CancerFamilies #celebratinginspiteofcancer

Thank you Meliezza Walker, Michael Vogel, Carmen Martinez and Melissa Wilson for helping A Shelter for Cancer Families to share our story in a way that is worthy of the families we serve.
