Minority Business Enterprise (MBE)
COVID-19 Economic Impact
The Voice of NMSDC MBEs!

Greetings,

Adrienne Trimble, President and CEO of the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC), along with our 23 Affiliate Regional Council Presidents and our 23 Minority Business Enterprise Input Committee (MBEIC) Chairs, will continue to lead efforts to serve you and advocate on your behalf as we navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Our primary focus is to ensure that our minority businesses are able to sustain operations and where necessary, receive access to the Small Business Administration (SBA) pandemic emergency financing. We will continue to share pertinent information to ensure you are aware of important policy developments.

We are aware you have received several survey requests. This joint one is vitally important.

The goal of this survey is to capture and ensure all additional funding encompasses the needs of minority-owned business and provisions for equitable funding, including but not limited to increased funding of community banks, credit unions and CDFIs.

Several sources have requested factual information on the status of our MBEs being approved and receiving funds from the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL). Our mutual goal is to have SBA allocate more funding to lenders that will make loans to minority businesses.

With this said, we have good news! The National Bankers Association, a group of minority and women owned bankers, are positioned to process PPP applications for minority businesses. If you have an immediate need for a PPP loan, please complete this survey by Monday, May 4, 2020 at 12:00 PM EDT. Otherwise, survey deadline is Wednesday, May 6, 2020, at 12:00 PM EDT.

It is critical that our minority businesses receive funding made available via the COVID-19 stimulus package. We urgently need your participation to gather relevant information. The survey questions are grouped in the following three categories:

• About Your Business
• The Impact of COVID-19 on Your Business
• Your Stimulus Loan Application Experience (not required if you did not apply for loans)

We commend the MBEs that pivoted their business to provide products/services in response to the COVID-19 procurement needs.

Stay strong, healthy & safe, and brighter days are just around the corner. We will get through this together!

On behalf of:

NMSDC National Office
23 NMSDC Affiliate Regional Councils
23 Minority Business Enterprise Input Committee Chairs

A woman of considerable intellect and uncompromising ethics, Marshette Turner is the Director of Corporate Services for the Houston Minority Supplier Development Council (HMSDC). In this role, Marshette is responsible for actively engaging the Corporate community as well as connecting them to Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs). Marshette is a natural fit for this position as she believes in building professional relationships and allowing them to develop organically. A well connected visionary leader, Marshette is the former Director of External Affairs for the Illinois State Comptroller, has hosted a live television broadcast, and met with leaders and entertainers from around the world. As a Chicago Native, and well rooted woman of God, she is an incredible addition to HMSDC, and thus this weeks #WCW #womancrushwednesday

Emerging 10 Winner Rogelio Pombrol Jr. Has been an HMSDC member since 2002. He frequently attends the council’s events, and is a board and chair member for the National Association of Minority Contractors (NAMC). He is active in his parish, not just in attendance, but frequently volunteers, all the while finding time to mentor young teenagers of color in HISD’s Ascending to Men Project (ATMP).
