Great event yesterday as we hosted another Conversations Over Coffee series with Judges Tameika Carter, Surendran K. Pattel, and Juli Mathew. A special thank you to these judges that took time out of their Sunday schedule to come and educate us on the judicial system and Ailings Chinese Bistro for sponsoring the event. This was a very informative session where we learned about jury selection, appeals, jurisdiction of the different courts, setting bond amounts, and the different burdens of proof required for both civil and criminal cases. Also, a special thank you to County Judge KP George for attending and sharing his perspective on the importance of civic engagement.

The COC was very well attended by about 30 people who enjoyed the coffee at Pondicheri Bake Lab. The two judges, Harris County District Judge Ravi Sandill, and Harris County Civil Court at Law Judge Manpreet Monica Singh, thoroughly explained the intricacies of the HC and state wide judicial system. The attendees asked many questions that were answered by both judges in turn.

IAPAC’s very first CoC (Conversations over Coffee) with candidates running for open FBISD trustee positions on a lovely Sunday morning turned out to be very informative. Out of nine candidates running for the three open positions five showed up in person (Angie Hanan - Position 1 (I), Oscar Saenz - Position 1, Angie Hanan - Position 1 (I), Shirley Rose-Gilliam - Position 4 (I), Rolly U. DeMeza - Position 5, Allison Drew - Position 5 ) and two sent their regrets for their inability to attend.
Each of the candidates spoke in turn about their vision for FBISD and what they would bring to the trustee position. An intense Q&A session between the candidates and local FBISD residents followed the formal statements. The candidates also took notes on the issues that are of concern to the FBISD citizens.
All in all it was a very productive two hours spent between the residents meeting and greeting the candidates and learning more about the bond propositions.

RSVP ASAP.
The Indian American Political Action Committee (IAPAC) is launching "Coffee rendezvous" events to bring together community leaders, elected officials, and candidates running for local, state, and federal offices in the greater Houston area. The aim is to address issues affecting our communities. You are invited to join us on Sunday, April 30th at 9:30 AM to meet the Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees candidates.

As parents and concerned community members, we are always looking for ways to learn more about the candidates running for office and their positions on important issues. We believe that this informal get-together would provide a great opportunity for us to get to know each other and the candidates for this very important school board election.
We look forward to meeting with the candidates and learning more about their vision for our school district.
Please RSVP at the earliest to [email protected]
We look forward to seeing you at the event.

In a democracy, if you don't like something you have the right to express it with your vote. Whatever you choose, it only matters if you cast the ballot.

We had an amazing group of elected officials representing both major political parties at our Reception on Thursday at India House. Our Indian American community was able to meet and discuss issues with the people that represent us politically.

One thing that was astoundingly clear from everyone in the room was, everyone wants more bipartisan discussions and solutions. And will be continue to be the voice that advocates for bipartisanship and our community.
