LGBT Americans have experienced — and continue to experience — health disparities and are more likely than other Americans to be uninsured or underinsured.
They are less likely to be able to afford vital health care than their straight and non-transgender neighbors. For LGBT people of color, barriers to care and health disparities are even greater.

The week falls during the first-ever Transgender Month of Action for Healthcare Equality, which seeks to educate leaders and co-workers about the health-care disparities faced by transgender people.

If you know someone who is Trans or are Trans yourself, please reach out to us if you would like sexual health resources and other health resources.

Our Story

Harris County Public Health seeks to invigorate HIV testing and outreach. We target high-risk populations through education and engagement. We believe that removing the barriers associated with testing, such as lack of insurance or transportation, will encourage individuals to test and know their status. We provide free and mobile HIV and Syphilis testing to anyone in Greater Harris County by simply texting our team at 281.962.8378. If a test should come back positive we will link an individual to care and assist with every step of the process.
