Prepared for the Street!

Last night K9 Shadow on his 1st ever deployment located two subjects who ran after a vehicle pursuit of a stolen vehicle. One surrendered after K9 warnings and the other was located hiding in a large cedar tree. Good job to the perimeter units and all involved.

Hamilton Co. Sheriff's Office came down from Cincinnati, Ohio to pair Sgt. Lange and K9 Kylo! K9 Kylo was granted through the The Matt Haverkamp Foundation. Thank you Hamilton Co. Sheriff's Office and The Matt Haverkamp Foundation for the honor and opportunity to work with you both. K9 Kylo will be the 5th canine from Houston K9 Academy for Hamilton Co. K9 Unit.

This is what we do

Five minutes before sunset the call comes in of a missing/critical 12 year old child to Wood County Dispatch near Lake Winnsboro. She did not have a jacket and we knew temps would be in the low 50's. The Sheriffs Office requested K9 Mata and we headed to assist. Perryville and Winnsboro Fire Departments and Wood CO Deputies set a perimeter. WISD Chief Jody Hettich arrived as Deputy Jeff Hammond, K9 Mata, and I tracked the young girl. Within an hour she was located and returned to her mother thanks to each and every person (especially perimeter) and pup that responded.

Today K9 Radar and his handler were assisting patrol units in tracking a stolen vehicle. When it was located, all of the suspects ran on foot. K9 Radar and patrol units quickly located a suspect hiding nearby. Once he saw Radar, he realized he needed to give up. Right after that, K9 Radar let his handler know there was another person hiding behind a shed. He also gave up when he realized Radar found him. Great job, K9 Radar! Not bad for your first search!!!

I always thought it was cliché to say, "this dog taught me how to be ...., that dog showed me
..., I learned .... from that dog". Yet here we are and it couldn't be more true.
Blue, you taught us Sooooooo many things. You showed our family, our kids, our students, trainers, many many people how awesome Police dogs can be. You were used in training to show many how to deploy, taught trainers the ending goal, our family and friends that Police k9s aren't "kujos". You taught our babies how to adore animals and how to be gentle and sweet. You will have a place in all our hearts forever.

We support law enforcement and thank Rocky Smith, Shannon Sayre-Smith, K9 Officers and all their volunteers. Thank you for trusting us to provide quality dogs and real world training to all your grant recipients.

Words cannot express the appreciation that I have for Rocky Smith, Shannon and K9 Officers. We met over two years ago and they gifted K9 Juma to us and introduced us to Jason and Jaz at Houston K9 Academy. They trained us on the streets to prepare for the streets. They have stood beside us along the way and when HK9 and K9 Officers heard of K9 Juma's illness they stepped up again.

We later learned that she would need to retire and they immediately found us a spot in a class and we headed to Houston to find a suitable companion.

Later, K9 Mata (Jason and Jaz's initial pick) and I bonded and took off running. Eddie Dickman stepped up along with the instructor trainers and taught us how to be a team. The level of dedication that HK9 continues to show is second to none. The support that K9 Officers is appreciated more than they know. We would not be back on the street today without K9 Officers and the support of our local businesses and each person in our community. Thank you.

🐕 Thoughts and prayers with Gwinnett County Pd. K9 Blue lost his life in line of duty today. He was tracking a felony suspect and was shot. The suspect is deceased. K9 Blue will honored on our in the line of duty death memorial at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center.

Thank you for your service K9 Blue!

Any donation will go towards K9 Blues name being placed on the memorial at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center. Once the funds are met to have his name on the memorial, the rest of the funds will be utilized to help K-9 units in need of vests or other protective equipment in honor of K9 Blue.

Dynamic Duo Meet

Precinct 5 Deputy Brandon Benton got to meet his new partner, Deputy Tiger, today.

The nearly two-year-old K9 deputy is a Belgian Malinois Shepherd mix who has just completed his own training with Houston K9 Academy, LLC. Now he and Deputy Benton will begin their own 9-week training course as they get to know each other and prepare for their patrol assignment.

Deputy Benton moves over to Constable Ted Heap's K9 patrol after an extensive screening and interview process over the last several months. He previously served in our Toll Road Division.

Special thanks to our friends at K9 Officers for donating this K9 to serve the residents of Precinct 5.
