Judge Michael Landrum

Judge Michael Landrum Judge of the 164th Civil District Court in Harris County, Texas My name is Michael Landrum and I am Judge of the 113th Civil District Court. Since being appointed to fill a vacancy on this court, I have been privileged to preside in the trial of a huge variety of civil matters.

It has been a tremendous honor to serve the people of Texas and I hope to continue doing so for years to come. I am certified as a specialist in the fields of Civil Trial Law (since 1989) and Civil Appellate Law (in 1995) by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Board Certification demonstrates my commitment to the legal profession. The application process is rigorous, and requires one to demonstrate actual courtroom experience and continuing legal education beyond that required of all attorneys. A comprehensive written exam is required. Perhaps the most meaningful thing about Board Certification for me is that the process asks judges and one's fellow attorneys, including adversaries, to provide references concerning competence and ethical behavior. I am proud to have met that standard when my certifications were granted and at each five-year renewal. For 14 years, I served as master for the Harris County civil district courts with responsibility for disposition of delinquent tax cases. I was appointed as Tax Master by vote of our civil district judges. For more than 20 years before I took the bench, I was a member of the American Arbitration Association Panel of Neutrals. I also arbitrated securities related matters under the auspices of FINRA. As an arbitrator, I served as chair of arbitration panels selected to decide major commercial disputes. I also sat as sole arbitrator in numerous cases involving smaller claims. As an arbitrator I received evidence and rendered final awards in more than 200 cases involving a variety of issues. Some have concerned relatively small consumer claims, and some were complex commercial matters involving millions of dollars. I realize that no case is trivial to the parties involved, and every case is entitled to a fair hearing and careful deliberation. I ask for the support of voters throughout Harris County, Texas as I run for re-election as the District Judge of the 113th District Court. Thank you for your consideration.

Dear Friends,

Once more a free election has delivered its message and I will again be leaving my service as a Texas judge. Perhaps the effort was quixotic from the outset; even so, it is important that elections be contested. I am honored and grateful to have had the opportunity to serve.

My congratulations to the next judge of the 164th District Court.

Please know how much Mary Grace and I appreciate the generosity, kindness, support and encouragement so many friends gave during this year’s campaign. Your faith in us is a blessing which we both cherish.

For all off you we wish happiness, health, peace and joy.

Mike

It's important to keep Judge Landrum as a judge because he is somebody who takes the role of a judge seriously. He takes his time with each case. He is patient. He is prepared. He values juror's time and he doesn't rush through things. He values the integrity of the judicial system.

10/24/2020

It's very important that we keep Judge Michael Landrum on the bench because in Harris County Court people go to court and they need to know that the rules apply in both directions. So we need someone who's going to look at the law and apply the law to the case and not try to legislate from the bench and create law for some particular position or another. So that's why it's very important that we keep Michael Landrum so we have that consistency on the bench. I'm voting for Judge Michael Landrum for the 164th court because he's the one that can provide us with honesty, integrity, and discipline and to make sure that justice is served in Harris County.

I am humbled by a message that a supporter recently sent to friends. Thank you, Claire.
"Dear Friends,
As many of you know, I am very apolitical. But I feel compelled to tell you about Michael Landrum and ask you to vote to keep Michael Landrum, Judge of the 164th District Court. This vote is not about party (although he is Republican). It’s about keeping knowledge, experience and work ethic at the Harris County Courthouse.

Michael was preferred in the Houston Bar Poll 781 to 374 over his opponent. The Houston Chronicle recommended him with this quote, “Lawyers said he was one of the best in the courthouse and known for being nonpartisan and careful.” Michael has also been endorsed by the Mexican American Bar Association, the Houston Region Business Coalition, the Houston Black Lawyers Association and the several law enforcement groups.

At a time when there is much press about the Supreme Court, we can’t forget about the judges who decide cases in our local trial courts. Curt frequently reminds me of the importance of having good judges who will decide cases that affect local residents and businesses. Curt has actually served on an arbitration panel with Michael, and can’t say enough about his professionalism.

We have known the Landrum family for years through the Spring Branch School District and have only great good things to say about them. Please take the time on the down ballot races that get less attention in the press but can affect us just as much as those that get more press.

Claire M.
