To all my fellow Comrades,
I bring good news, but with it I bring a warning.
The eviction moratorium for the entire US is confusing, but basically you state under oath that
1. you earn less than $99K per year and
2. can't pay your rent because of job and income loss
You still owe the rent money, but no landlord can evict you.
The moratorium lasts until December 31, 2020.
2020 is ending with landlords losing their right to evict renters who do not pay rent which may be a good thing on a temporary basis, but in the long run it will cause rent prices to go up and cause landlords to implement stricter requirements for renters to apply for rental units in the future such as credit check, rental history, more security deposit, insurance, etc. Also, the demand for single family homes will increase causing an increase in prices of homes. Finally, landlords will be encouraged to rent their units to persons who receive direct governmental rental assistance causing higher taxes and inflation for all and more and more income and wealth inequality. The next step may be rent control boards which establish all the detailed requirements for the landlord-tenant relationship and cause more and more housing units to become less and less available.
