At the same time, Sullivan was elected to the Humble ISD Board of Trustees, where he served from 2004 – 2007. He also served on the Executive Committee of the Region H Water Planning Group from 1997 – 2005. Sullivan ran for Houston City Council in 2007 and was sworn into office in January 2008. Serving District E, he represents the communities of Kingwood and Clear Lake, the Houston Ship Channel, Ellington Airport, and NASA/Johnson Space Center. He is known as the most conservative member of Houston City Council. Sullivan is in his third and final term, and was the only member of the council to run unopposed. Sullivan has been a small business owner for almost 35 years, owning and operating Mike Sullivan Interests, LLC. He also holds interests in other companies, and has been a licensed real estate broker since 1978. Sullivan believes strongly in community involvement, as evidenced by his service as a board member of Hospital Corporation of America-Gulf Coast Division, director of Lake Houston Area Chamber of Commerce, Kingwood Musical Arts Society Advisory Board, and as a member of the Lone Star College System Chancellor’s Advisory Council. He is a member of several other chambers of commerce. Additionally, Sullivan is an Ex-Officio Director of the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership, director of the Bay Area Houston Convention & Visitors Bureau, and member of the UH-Clear Lake Community Partners Council. Governor Rick Perry recently appointed Sullivan to serve on his 9-member Task Force on Unfunded Mandates. A native Houstonian, he has been married to Kim Sullivan for 29 years. She is a Realtor with Keller Williams-Northeast, and they have a 19 year old daughter who is a freshman at Baylor University. The Sullivan’s attend Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Kingwood. Sullivan received his Associate of Arts from Lone Star College-Kingwood in 2011, as is currently a senior at UH-Downtown, where he is pursuing a B. S. in Political Science.
