Why foster? Foster families are our partners in helping the puppies, kittens, cats, and dogs who need a little extra TLC before they find their forever homes. Our mission is the same: find homes for these incredible, deserving animals!

Whether you can offer love, patience, and a second chance to a shy dog, or you are a determined nurturer who wakes up at three a.m. to bottle-feed hungry kittens, every home helps twice over! Your generosity helps the pet in your care, and it also helps BARC serve more needy animals in our community!

It is free to foster for BARC, and there are many different levels of time and emotional commitment! We work with you to find fosters who might suit your lifestyle (Active? Foster a 2-year-old dog! Live in a tiny apartment? Foster young kittens!)Whether you can help for five days or five months (the length of time to treat heartworms), we need and greatly appreciate your support!

Want to learn more? Fill out our foster application (https://forms.gle/r3cg7N7i9inAHna28), then email [email protected] or call 832.395.9031 to get started!

You can be the biggest advocate for your foster pet! I thought this Maddie's foster marketing guide was a great reference for working on getting your fosters adopted locally or giving information to the transport rescues for placement! 🙂 https://www.maddiesfund.org/.../MF-foster-caregiver... https://heartsspeak.org also has a ton of great resources!
Posting for a friend: “I saw a husky walking on the sidewalk of chimney rock and Bellaire, alone, no leash, no tag. Wanted to stop but there were too many cars.” Is anyone able to go get her? She said she is grey and white. Thanks!
She needs a foster with backing rescue. She only has till 1 pm today or she will be euth. She needs chemo and she has a prolapse and is in pain please help her asap. The shelter number is below please give her a chance.
Free Dog Play Workshops... I have attended 2 of these workshops and I learned a lot! When it comes to dog to dog intros and play, from my experience the Shelter Playgroup Alliance are one of the best... https://www.facebook.com/481046779072603/posts/963583450818931/?extid=N62pBvltZpHgFMdW
Are you fostering a pandemic puppy or kitten or know someone who did? Or are you interested in learning more about training your puppy or kitten (or adult dog or cat - the same techniques apply)? Friends for Life hosts online puppy (and kitten!) kindergarten classes every week! How cool, right? And they have invited BARC staff, fosters and volunteers to audit the class so we can pass on some of this valuable knowledge to adopters in the future! See below for the schedule and details. The course is 6-week duration and requires a 6 week commitment. BARC volunteers, fosters and staff are welcome to dial in and audit the class. The sessions are 1 hour long with a 30 min Q&A. Every week we discuss various topics including training some basic skills, behavior discussions (including body language, potty training/litter box set up, consent testing / handling, chewing/biting, barking/meowing (excessive), jumping and counter surfing), husbandry & handling (including harness training, crate training, stress free nail trims & vet visits), socialization and enrichment. Every Tuesday at 6pm: Online Kitten Kindergarten. Suitable for kitten or cat owners or individuals interested in basic training and behavior. Every Wednesday at 6pm: Online Puppy Kindergarten. Suitable for puppy or dog owners or individuals interested in basic training and behavior. Every Sunday at 11am: Online Puppy Kindergarten. Suitable for puppy or dog owners or individuals interested in basic training and behavior. Every Sunday at 1pm: Online Kitten Kindergarten. Suitable for kitten or cat owners or individuals interested in basic training and behavior. If you are interested in attending (or know someone who is interested), please email: [email protected]

YAY!! Brisket was adopted today!!! Such a good boy...I will miss him.
Nelly Needs a Place to Heal! I have too many foster dogs and cant give him the attention he deserves. I will pay $20 a day (like a boarding rate), provide his food, harness, leash, bedding, crate and cone. Really one week would be great. Nelly had his leg amputated on Saturday. He is very sweet and will transport in a couple of weeks to a rescue in Seattle. He is looking for a place to heal for 3-4 weeks! Please let me know if you can help, even for part of that time.
Adopt Timmy!! Timmy was on the euth list last Sunday because he was terrified in the shelter, but he is thriving in foster care! If you are looking for a sweet gentle labby boy, this is your guy. Please share to anyone who may be interested. -housebroken -kennel trained -no food or toy aggression (can eat next to other dogs without issues) -quiet -gentle giant (~75 lbs) -calm -dog and kid friendly (but would prefer kids that give him personal space) -friendly -good on a leash
