Cane River Gardens

Cane River Gardens Cultivating the Community "Inspiring a Sustainable Community by Planting the Seeds of Self-Reliance" Cane River Gardens is located in the historic Fifth Ward District of Houston Texas and focuses primarily on exposing the economic, independent, and social potential of all individuals through a garden medium.

Cane River Gardens, Inc. (CRG) is a young urban garden built October 2012 with a mission to restore a sense of community and inspire a vigorous local-based food resource that provides easy access to healthy and nutritional foods in communities with limited resources. We value creativity, laughter, work that makes everyday feel like an adventure as we foster an environment of innovation and self-reliance. Stimulating local economic development is critical to becoming self-reliant in this constant changing society. CRG seeks to be a hub of positivity providing a space for critical consciousness much like the atmosphere at the local barber/beauty salons or your local diner. Let us know if you would like to partner for community based events. We are interested in partnering on Drive-thru Voter Registration events, Farmers Market, Outdoor Summer Movie Series, block parties, organized bike rides, cooking demonstrations, dance lessons, and a host of other community engagement events. We invite you to grow with us! Embrace the responsibility to remain active and vocal participants in each of our communities. Reconnect with the earth and its natural energy; learn new skills or share a skill. Tap into your creative.

The group Better Block is proving that improvised, cheap D.I.Y. weekend block parties can jump-start transformations to more people-centered urban areas.
