We #Tackle Hunger. Join Us.

The idea of Souper Bowl of Caring was born in 1990 and inspired by a simple prayer, “Lord, as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us be mindful of those who are without a bowl of soup to eat.” The prayer was delivered by Brad Smith, then a seminary intern at Spring Valley Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC.

That was 1990. Since then, ordinary young people have been joined by schools, churches, local businesses, community partners and NFL teams across the country to generate over $150 million in food and funds to help support soup kitchens, food banks and other hunger-relief organizations in their local communities.

Rock Hill Baptist Church has been doing our annual SoupBowl of Caring for the past 9 years. Four years ago we challenged our church's Cub Scout Pack 845 to see who could collect the most items. We have a handmade trophy that is awarded on Super Bowl Sunday to the winner. Due to 3 weeks of snow and ice, our contest was extended until 2/21/21. Our goal each year for each group is the number of the Super Bowl and add a zero...this year 550. Our kids collected a total of 2,725 items this year! God is Good!!! Our donations are given to SERVE (Stafford Emergency Relief through Volunteer Efforts). All the time, God is Good!
