Little York Fire Department

Little York Fire Department Founded in 1942 The Little York Fire Department is committed to protect and serve our community and to minimize the loss of life and property from fire, medical, or other related emergencies.
(2)

Established in 1942 for the Little York community, The Little York Vol. Fire Dept was established by a group of volunteers who wished to protect their community. The original station was located near the intersection of what is now Airline and Little York. In the 70s Little York Fire Department absorbed the Rushwood Fire Department expanding our response area to the FM 1960 corridor. With the growth of other fire departments along with the annexation of the city of Houston, LYFDs territory has downsized to what it is now. The Little York Volunteer Fire Department is responsible for protecting the lives and properties of people within Emergency Service District #17. ESD#17 is a taxing district that is ran by elected officials and its sole purpose is to provide funding for fire protection within the territory (LYVFDs response area). The department operates through three stations and its coverage area spans from Canino Rd to Richey Rd from Veterans Memorial to the Hardy Toll Road. In addition LYVFD responds to calls outside of our immediate area due to mutual aid agreements with neighboring fire districts. The Little York Volunteer Fire Department is a combination paid/volunteer department which means we offer both paid and volunteer membership opportunities and are always accepting applications for volunteers. LYVFD responds to emergency situations and provides a variety of medical and rescue services when the time arises. The Little York Volunteer Fire Department offers patch trading options along with a variety of fire prevention and safety information and courses. At Little York Volunteer Fire Department, we perform our jobs to the highest standards "So That Others May Live".

Huge thanks goes out to HCA AirLife for stopping by this week for a Meet & Greet! Currently HCA operates on two helicopters, both of which have a range of about 120 miles and respond to 911 calls from areas in which it would take more than 45 minutes to go by ground as well as transfer adult and pediatric patients from other hospitals in need of a higher level of care. They respond to all emergencies requiring urgent care, not just trauma cases.
