Little York Fire Department

Little York Fire Department Founded in 1942 The Little York Fire Department is committed to protect and serve our community and to minimize the loss of life and property from fire, medical, or other related emergencies.
(3)

Established in 1942 for the Little York community, The Little York Vol. Fire Dept was established by a group of volunteers who wished to protect their community. The original station was located near the intersection of what is now Airline and Little York. In the 70s Little York Fire Department absorbed the Rushwood Fire Department expanding our response area to the FM 1960 corridor. With the growth of other fire departments along with the annexation of the city of Houston, LYFDs territory has downsized to what it is now. The Little York Volunteer Fire Department is responsible for protecting the lives and properties of people within Emergency Service District #17. ESD#17 is a taxing district that is ran by elected officials and its sole purpose is to provide funding for fire protection within the territory (LYVFDs response area). The department operates through three stations and its coverage area spans from Canino Rd to Richey Rd from Veterans Memorial to the Hardy Toll Road. In addition LYVFD responds to calls outside of our immediate area due to mutual aid agreements with neighboring fire districts. The Little York Volunteer Fire Department is a combination paid/volunteer department which means we offer both paid and volunteer membership opportunities and are always accepting applications for volunteers. LYVFD responds to emergency situations and provides a variety of medical and rescue services when the time arises. The Little York Volunteer Fire Department offers patch trading options along with a variety of fire prevention and safety information and courses. At Little York Volunteer Fire Department, we perform our jobs to the highest standards "So That Others May Live".

In 2021, May 16th through May 22nd is designated as National EMS week, with this year's theme being "caring for our communities." This year has definitely created challenges for us as first responders, but as we always do, we adjust to provide the best service possible to the community. We would like to wish a Happy EMS week to our EMS partners Cypress Creek EMS and the Harris County Emergency Corp. Little York Fire Department provides Emergency Medical First Response to both organizations and responded to 1,413 Medical Responses in 2020. Currently we house CCEMS M57 at Station 83 and CCEMS M517 at Station 84. We also share property with HCEC M91 and continue to have a strong working relationship with both organizations. " Caring for our Communities" is what we do best. Happy EMS WEEK!

After meeting with the membership and getting feedback & input on what was truly important to us as organization, Chief Richardson has announced our new Mission Statement!

Most importantly it was kept short, meaningful, and memorable.

The new Mission Statement is proudly displayed in each of our 4 stations as a reminder of what Little York Fire Department/HCESD 17 stands for.

On Friday March 26th, Chief Scott Seifert from Spring FD came by to present Little York Fire Department with a plaque to show their appreciation to the partnership between our two agencies. Interesting Fact, Spring Fire Department was established in 1953. This means that Little York Fire Department and Spring Fire Department have been partners for over 68 years. Thank you, Chief Seifert, for the kind gift. We will display it with pride at our Headquarters Building.

The Texas Commission on Fire Protection is the regulatory entity that provides oversight to regulated fire departments across the State of Texas. Their purpose is to ensure that agencies are compliant with National Standards and the fire industries “best practices”. The TCFP performs biennial audits on agencies, checking various operating procedures including training records and equipment maintenance logs. Today, Little York’s command staff met with our TCFP Compliance inspector to go through our records to ensure we are up to the agency’s standard. Upon completion of the audit, we were found to have no deficiencies and passed with flying colors.
