14 years of .
Today, as we mark the 14th anniversary of DACA, I want to recognize the millions of Dreamers whose lives have been transformed by this program, but also a reality that is too often overlooked: Black immigrants have always been part of the DACA story.
Yet conversations about immigration frequently erase, minimize, or ignore Black immigrant experiences. There has been a persistent and intentional obfuscation of the fact that Black immigrants are deeply impacted by immigration policies, enforcement, and systemic barriers. As a result, Black DACA recipients often find themselves navigating multiple layers of invisibility.
But despite that erasure, Black immigrants have never stopped showing up.
Advocates, organizers, and directly impacted individuals have continually risen to the occasion, telling their stories, demanding recognition, and fighting for policies that reflect the full diversity of our immigrant communities.
Today, I am especially grateful for organizations like and the many Black-led immigrant rights organizations that work tirelessly to protect Black lives, Black immigrants, and Black DACA recipients. Their advocacy has helped ensure that our stories are heard and that our communities are not left behind.
As we celebrate 14 years of DACA, let us also recommit ourselves to building an immigrant rights movement that is inclusive, honest, and unwilling to leave anyone in the shadows.
Black immigrants belong in this conversation. We always have.Immigration is a Black issue!!i
