HVFD is a 100% volunteer Fire Department, we serve approximately 1000 residents and countless visitors who pass through daily.

Hello Howard Friends. As you might have seen, we now have our LED sign operational! Thank you for your donations to help make this happen.

Please bear with us as we are working diligently to learn how to operate this sign. It’s surprisingly complicated. We have heard some feedback about brightness and are working to correct that. No more white backgrounds! We want to be good neighbors.

Feel free to send any feedback to our email address: [email protected] and we will do our best to fix any problems.

Our purpose with this sign is to alert our community to Red Flag and Burn Ban statuses. Also of any emergencies, road closures, training opportunities, community events, safety tips, etc.

Near record heat today with very low relative humidity. Even the tiniest spark could start a fire. The cheat grass has dried out now and is a serious fire hazard, PLEASE make sure you aren’t parking your vehicles with hot exhausts in a bed of dry grass. Be safe out there Pleasant Valley 🙏

It’s not just a breeze; it's a personal blast,
Like Satan’s hair dryer is set to its "max".
Another Red Flag in this oven-baked sky,
It’s so dry that I feel like I might just shrivel and die.

Yes, that’s our 3rd red flag day in a row. That means it’s EXTRA CRISPY out there! Absolutely no sparks or flames outdoors. Keep your cig butts in your vehicles, and make sure your trailer chains aren’t dragging. Thank you.

Just a heads up - literally. The Howard Volunteer Fire Department will be conducting drone mapping operations over County Roads 46, 47, and 48 in the coming weeks to assist in pre-incident planning. This work is being done to improve emergency response capabilities. We appreciate the community's cooperation.
