Royalty on the Run: THE FINAL CHAPTER?
If you’ve been wondering what I’ve been up to, I’ve been growing stronger, more agile, and even more charming if you can believe it. Now it’s time for me to find my forever home - could it be yours?

PLEASE SHARE!
____________________________________________________
Hey, there. I’m Al, the royal kitten who will steal your heart! These blue eyes will look in to yours, and you will want to look in to them forever. I’m smart, and athletic, and love to snuggle up – how perfect is that? I’m also very social, and want another active cat – or a cat friendly dog – that likes to play. I love empty boxes, bags, and toys like milk bottle rings. I love chewing on EVERYTHING, and need a good stuffed toy to chew on. I am a SPECIAL BOY – read on!

Because of a tragic injury I sustained in my native island of St. Croix, I am relearning to use my back legs, and to use the litter box. I’ve come so far in my walking, and all signs point to a good recovery – my foster will show you how to help me walk. My litter box use has improved, however, I may always need some extra care. (Ugh, I hate to talk about bodily functions!) My foster mom expresses my bladder twice a day - she says it takes less than 5 minutes, and it's not messy at all. I poop at one or both of these times. If I'm in the main house, I do wear a diaper just in case - otherwise, I am fully naked in my own space.

The family that adopts me must love me forever, and have experience caring for special kitties like me. The hope is I will eventually be walking and toileting just fine, the reality is I may always need help with my bathroom habits.

Dr. Starr’s physical therapy exercises are working!

(My ghost-cat writer was in Salem for the weekend (naturally, for a ghost cat), and is posting 2 Chapters tonight to catch you all up on how I’ve been doing!)

Royalty on the Run

Chapter 5:

I am SO going to walk again! My foster mom and I went to see Dr. Suzanne Starr at ‘Paws in Motion’, this awesome place that gets dudes like me moving along! Dr. Starr showed my foster mom how to make a sling, and support my back end, so I’d get more comfortable using my back legs for support. Look at these twinkle toes go! It’s not always a pretty process, but it works.

CaRMaH purchased a wheelchair for me so I’d have another way to learn to walk! The photo is in the comments. Got to say I’m not that thrilled with it, but I go along for a few minutes, just to be polite.

Uh, I do have to tell a pretty embarrassing story - that’ll be next time

Chapter 4

Man, oh, man! I’m just lovin’ Massachusetts! The weather is fine, I have food in my belly, and I have a play pen to play in. Oh, so the weather gets cold? I’ll worry ‘bout that when the time comes.

I’ve had lots of people to pay attention to me, because a thing called ‘CAVED’ - or ‘COVER’ - oh yeah ‘COVID’ means that my foster family is around most of the time. That means I am also getting stronger, as they play with me, and let me run around the house with my diaper on.

HELP ME! I am a simple Royal, so no need for riches, but I do need equipment and therapies, and so do the other special needs kitties of CaRMaH

Royalty on the Run

Chapter 3:

Well, I tell ya, cat rescuers make the world go round. Dr. Mehalick of St. Croix Animal Welfare Center knew I needed a special foster. She reached out to Christine Southworth of REAL Cruzan Cats, a group that brings cats from the islands to Massachusetts. Christine reached out to Laurence Van Atten-Holyoke of International Animal Rescue to see if she knew of just the right foster. And there was someone who had a weakness for little flame point kittens with back end disabilities! Jocelyne Durrenberger, president of CaRMaH, was immediately drawn in by my spunk, and agreed to take him in to CaRMaH and foster him.

Well, if that doesn’t confuse you, you are doing great! Long story short, I flew from St. Croix with a chaperone, and escorted out to Hudson. Took me no time to charm my foster family! My foster mom insisted on wearing a onesie at first, because I had ‘accidents’, and she didn’t want ‘messes’ on her ‘rug’. How picky! I do look cute in my hospital sock onesie, however, don’t ya think?

NEXT: Getting stronger every day!

Chapter 2:

This wonderous person took my broken body to St. Croix Animal Welfare Center https://www.facebook.com/StCroixAnimalWelfareCenter/. The staff welcomed me, and knew, as badly as I was injured, that I wanted to live - to play, to snuggle, to watch birds from a window. Dr. Michelle Mehalick checked me out, and felt like I had a real chance . I needed many days of fluids, medicines for intestinal issues, and prednisone to reduce the inflamation from my injuries. The folks at the shelter named me Royal, and treated me like a king

I was rather fresh when I finally could move around - so interested in what everyone was doing, getting underfoot. So I lived in a discarded box that had tiles in it. As you can see below, my life in the box was very exciting, and I began to play!

“Royalty on the Run”

Chapter 1:
I was living in a tropical paradise: the island of St. Thomas - and my young life was pretty typical for a cat. I lived outside, unowned, and filled my belly with scraps tossed to us, or taken out of the trash.

Then tragedy struck - and I do mean struck! Never saw it coming, so I can’t tell you what it was - most likely a car. I felt a strong, sharp pain in my back and all went black. When I awoke, I knew something serious was wrong and I was so distressed - I’d’ve cried out the largest tears if I could have.

I realized that I could not move my back legs, or my tail. I could no longer beg for food, or get to the scraps in trash cans. I could not get myself to a puddle to drink. I gave up all hope. Time went by, and I became lethargic - dehydrated, malnourished - I lay quietly, knowing my time had come.

Then a miracle happened - a person found me!

(What happened next is Chapter 2!)

This is my first baby picture. Nothing earlier because cats can’t operate smart phones. Didn’t know that this was my salvation!

Calling all lovers of older cats!

Hi, I'm Louie, a king of cats, an older gentleman with many years of love left to give. Did you notice how handsome I am? I am quite the stunner in my sleek grey coat.

I have had a few rough patches along the way, including a beginning that led me to my second owners. I'm ready to move on and retire with you!

I'm loyal to my people and will make a nice companion. I love to sit next to you while you watch TV or read -- just scratch my chin there - and there - and there!

I have some afflictions of an older cat -- I have only one eye and ask that you not startle me by approaching on my blind side. I have a little arthritis, so you just need to be super gentle with me. And I have early kidney disease, which is under control through a special diet. We'll figure it out together!

And also, I'd like to be your one and only. I won't do well with young children (older respectful children are fine), cats, or other dogs.

I am in overall good health, pretty good for a 16 year old, wouldn't you say?
My royal self would love to meet you.

This boy was pretty beat up when we trapped him and he initially told us he was feral. It wasn't long before he gave us some small signs that he was likely a house cat at some point long ago, and may want to be again!
Needless to say, here he is... The boss in his foster home💖😺

This is Bella, she got out when the movers opened the basement door she has been out since Sunday, 7/5/2020. We have tried to catch her but she is so easily spooked and runs off. She has been staying near the old house. Her former home is at 40 Commonwealth Ave in Marlborough. She has been seen there around 6:00 am and again around 8:20 pm.
We had such a great experience adopting through CaRMaH. This is Minnow (formerly known as Charlie)... The cutest, most cuddly little guy ever. He sleeps on my daughter's pillow every night.
Greetings from CaRMah alum Manticore (Monty)! We are so grateful to CaRMaH and to who ever rescued him from his stray cat life. Monty is a loved and cherished member of our family who is SO people oriented and begrudgingly accepts our dogs. We love this boy so much!
Missing cat from Sawyer Hill Rd in Berlin. Female tortoiseshell, about 8 pounds, can be skittish and hates being picked up or feeling trapped. Often practically invisible. No collar, but is microchipped. Please reach out if you have seen her~
Wondering if anybody has seen this little mastermind— made his way outside yesterday morning and hasn’t been seen since. In the Church Street area of Marlborough, hopefully!
We can’t find our indoor cat, Bear. We saw him about an hour ago! Please keep an eye out for him around Curley/hearthstone, Hudson! He is very shy !! 7742453586

Worth sharing but there is so many unknowns with this new virus that it can pass from your pets for to a human so don't Pat strangers animals: The American Veterinary Medical Association released the following guidance for human and pet interaction: Nothing about this case changes AVMA’s ongoing recommendation that, out of an abundance of caution, and until more is known about this virus, you should restrict contact with pets and other animals while you are sick with COVID-19, just as you would restrict contact with other people. When possible, have another member of your household or business take care of feeding and otherwise caring for any animals. If you have a service animal or you must care for your animals, including pets, wear a cloth facemask; don’t share food, kiss, or hug them; and wash your hands before and after any contact with them.
My cat Nugget has been missing since Friday, 3/27, night, Phelps Street, the mobile home park. He's an indoor only cat. He got out by an unlocked porch door. I have both porch doors propped open, two things that smell like me, his food, catnip, and his litter box on the porch. I've walked my cul-de-sac twice calling and looking for him. I've spoken to neighbors too.
