You may have heard that COVID-19 vaccines do not work. However, if you look at data from across the US, it becomes clear that COVID-19 vaccines reduce the risk of (1) catching COVID-19, and (2) dying from COVID-19. The following graphs help visualize the difference in outcomes between vaccinated and unvaccinated people.

On 10/29/21, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children age 5-11.
In the U.S., COVID-19 cases in children 5 through 11 years of age make up 39% of cases in individuals younger than 18 years of age. According to the CDC, approximately 8,300 COVID-19 cases in children 5 through 11 years of age resulted in hospitalization. As of Oct. 17, 691 deaths from COVID-19 have been reported in the U.S. in individuals less than 18 years of age, with 146 deaths in the 5 through 11 years age group.
Vaccination among children is an important step in protecting all people from COVID-19.

As a reminder, more people are now eligible for COVID-19 boosters! Remember, COVID-19 vaccines reduce your risk of (1) catching and spreading COVID-19, and (2) being hospitalized or dying from COVID-19 if you do get sick.

Note: The next Vaccination Report will be published at the end of November. Monthly reports will replace weekly reports moving forward.
Achieving a high vaccination rate is the best way to protect our community from undue harm from COVID-19. We strongly encourage all eligible residents to get a COVID-19 vaccine to protect themselves, their loved ones, and their community. The COVID-19 vaccine is an effective way to reduce your risk of getting sick and needing to be hospitalized. This is particularly important as the highly contagious Delta variant accounts for nearly all new COVID-19 cases in MA. COVID-19 vaccines among youth 12 years and older can also help our schools retain low COVID-19 transmission levels.

We understand that news stories around the COVID-19 vaccine may be confusing, scary, or even conflicting. Please let us know if you have any questions about the COVID-19 vaccine, and we will gladly respond in a future post.
Attached is information regarding the Test and Stay Program. The program allows students exposed to COVID-19 in school to stay in school if they have no symptoms and receive daily negative rapid tests for a set period of time after exposure.
The program does not apply to students who were exposed to COVID-19 in non-school settings. This is because the program is meant to address school-based exposures, and is regulated by the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
Please note that we must follow DESE guidelines for the Test and Stay program.

More people are now eligible for COVID-19 boosters! You may also mix-and-match different vaccines when you get your booster shot.
As always, the first priority is that unvaccinated individuals receive their initial doses of vaccine. Then, after 2-6 months, some individuals may be eligible for a booster according to their age, medical conditions, and living/working conditions.
Remember, COVID-19 vaccines reduce your risk of (1) catching and spreading COVID-19, and (2) being hospitalized or dying from COVID-19 if you do get sick.
