It’s that time of year again. Make sure you change the batteries in your smoke and carbon detectors and test them.

Check the dates on the back, smoke detectors should be replaced after 10 years and carbons after 8. If there’s no date, it’s too old.

Detectors save lives!

On this day 7 years ago the Hudson Fire Department was called to our house for the unimaginable. I would like the members of Hudson Fire past and present to know the impact you had on my family during the event as well as your actions in the days to follow. From the initial call to Hudson Public Safety Dispatch, the arrival of the Firefighters and the transport by Patriot Ambulance to Marlborough Hospital, we are forever grateful for your efforts and think of you often for your commitment and sacrifice to our community. A short time after the passing of our son Shawn, the responding members of Hudson Fire presented my family with this beautiful Memory Lamp shown in the picture. I would like those that contributed to this thoughtful gesture know that today marks 7 years that the lamp has illuminated one of our favorite keepsakes of Shawn. This light has become such a focal point of our lives that not a day goes by that it doesn't catch our eye and make us think of Shawn while moving through our busy lives.
Forever Grateful,
The Landry Family

At approximately 15:45 this afternoon, Hudson Engine 5 was dispatched for a suspected brush fire. Hudson Engine 5 met up with District Fire Warden Car 14, and located a 2 acre body of fire behind Central St, in the town on Bolton.

A box was struck for additional manpower to the scene. Bolton notified, and responded. Car 1 responded, and took command upon arrival.

Hudson Car 4 responded and utilized forestry attack lines to reach the fire for extinguishing efforts. Additional attack lines were also used off of E5. E4 established a water supply for all apperatus on scene.

After some time, the fire was extinguished, and the area required extensive overhaul. After all the hot spots were extinguished, all crews repacked and cleared. All apperatus are back in service, no injuries to report.

Please check your smoke detectors and fire extinguishers in the house as well as create an evacuation plan for your family.

Fires spread faster today than in years past due to the products used in construction of furniture and furnishings.

This video has been making its way around social media this week. While you watch it, please pay attention to:

- How quickly the fire grows.
- How long before the fire is discovered.
- Did you hear a smoke alarm ?
- How much smoke fills the room.
- Did family members know how to use the fire extinguisher?

Please remember that working smoke alarms provide early notification of a fire and gives you more time to escape. Working fire extinguishers are a great tool, if you know how to use them. Fires grow very quickly, don’t hesitate, exit the home or building as quickly as possible. It sounds like this fire was the result of a candle being too close to combustibles. Keep open flames and other heat sources away from combustibles. Test your smoke alarms!!

On this date, 2 years ago, Hudson Tower 1 returned after a long night of fighting fires in the City of Lawrence, following the "Merrimack Valley gas Explosions". This incident caused a series of explosions and fires to occur in over 40 homes, and caused over 80 individual fires. 1 life was lost in this tragic event.

Hudson Tower 1 was part of a massive mutual aid response from numerous towns/cities from Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire that responded to multiple reported fires in Merrimack valley area.

UPDATE: Hudson Fire Tower 1 returned from Lawrence in the early hours of the morning. All crew members returned safe and accounted for.

GREAT JOB BY FIRST RESPONDERS FROM ALL OVER THE STATE, AND SOUTHERN NH!

Oh man - powerful photos! Over and over again I thank god for all the amazing things you do for us!
I would like to thank HFD and HPD for their response today. My elderly father fell out in the yard and mom could not pick him up. My parents said all of you were awesome and very helpful. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. It's great to have wonderful departments that truly are part of the community. Thank you again.
Hey thank you guys for the birthday parade! It was awesome!
I'm not a fan at all of not being able to visit my peeps! Hope you all at HFD are doing ok. Reach out if I can help.🤨🥵🚒 Stay safe please!!
I was so glad to see the difference in response when calling 911 over the weekend. You're all there if we need you but, less exposure to possible virus cases is great !! Thank you for all that you do and stay well
Thank you for the response tonight with 3 engines. I heard it was all for heat alarm. Thank you for such a quick response.
Merry Christmas please stay safe and thank you for sacrificing the time away from your family to keep the town safe
I saw this on someone else's page this morning...not sure who created it but I wanted to share it with you...someone went to a lot of time and effort to create this...it should be shared
Time to help out..adopt a hydrant. I did my part, who else ?
My condolences to the family of the lost Worcester Lieutenant firefighter. A true hero and a brave man. The loss of a brother or sister is never easy. You risk your life daily and for that I say thank you and I am sorry. Please stay safe.
Stopping over to HQ on Wednesday around lunchtime. Thought I'd bring y'all some homemade soup instead of lame donuts. :-) Any requests?
