It’s that time of year again. Make sure you change the batteries in your smoke and carbon detectors and test them.
Check the dates on the back, smoke detectors should be replaced after 10 years and carbons after 8. If there’s no date, it’s too old.
Detectors save lives!

On this day 7 years ago the Hudson Fire Department was called to our house for the unimaginable. I would like the members of Hudson Fire past and present to know the impact you had on my family during the event as well as your actions in the days to follow. From the initial call to Hudson Public Safety Dispatch, the arrival of the Firefighters and the transport by Patriot Ambulance to Marlborough Hospital, we are forever grateful for your efforts and think of you often for your commitment and sacrifice to our community. A short time after the passing of our son Shawn, the responding members of Hudson Fire presented my family with this beautiful Memory Lamp shown in the picture. I would like those that contributed to this thoughtful gesture know that today marks 7 years that the lamp has illuminated one of our favorite keepsakes of Shawn. This light has become such a focal point of our lives that not a day goes by that it doesn't catch our eye and make us think of Shawn while moving through our busy lives.
The Landry Family
At approximately 15:45 this afternoon, Hudson Engine 5 was dispatched for a suspected brush fire. Hudson Engine 5 met up with District Fire Warden Car 14, and located a 2 acre body of fire behind Central St, in the town on Bolton.
A box was struck for additional manpower to the scene. Bolton notified, and responded. Car 1 responded, and took command upon arrival.
Hudson Car 4 responded and utilized forestry attack lines to reach the fire for extinguishing efforts. Additional attack lines were also used off of E5. E4 established a water supply for all apperatus on scene.
After some time, the fire was extinguished, and the area required extensive overhaul. After all the hot spots were extinguished, all crews repacked and cleared. All apperatus are back in service, no injuries to report.
Big thank you to the Texas Smoke Shack, Engine 5 stopped in to buy dinner on the way back from a call and he would not let us pay. He actually gave us a sample of everything. Thanks again!!! Also thank you to the anonymous person who also tried to buy us dinner!!
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and fellow firefighters of the U.S. Forest Service for their tragic unnecessary loss.
Prosecutors in San Bernardino County said Friday that they are meeting with fire authorities about the ongoing investigation into the El Dorado Fire.
Please check your smoke detectors and fire extinguishers in the house as well as create an evacuation plan for your family.
Fires spread faster today than in years past due to the products used in construction of furniture and furnishings.
This video has been making its way around social media this week. While you watch it, please pay attention to:
- How quickly the fire grows.
- How long before the fire is discovered.
- Did you hear a smoke alarm ?
- How much smoke fills the room.
- Did family members know how to use the fire extinguisher?
Please remember that working smoke alarms provide early notification of a fire and gives you more time to escape. Working fire extinguishers are a great tool, if you know how to use them. Fires grow very quickly, don’t hesitate, exit the home or building as quickly as possible. It sounds like this fire was the result of a candle being too close to combustibles. Keep open flames and other heat sources away from combustibles. Test your smoke alarms!!
Big shout out, and thank you to HHS Coach Tim Reinhardt, and the rest of the teachers/administrators at HHS for making this thoughtful 9/11 tribute video.
Furthermore, to all teachers this school year, stay safe . Teachers are the "unsung hero's" of our community.
