🏠More homes don’t always mean more money for our schools.
Texas school funding works a little differently than many people realize. Local property tax dollars fill the funding “cup” first. As local revenue increases, the amount of state funding a district receives decreases.
If local revenue exceeds the amount allowed under the state funding formula, those additional dollars can be recaptured by the state.
That’s where the 3 Golden Pennies come in. Through a VATRE, Huffman ISD voters can consider three additional M&O pennies that generate additional local and state funding—helping more dollars stay right here to support our students, staff, and schools.
Understanding how the funding formula works is an important part of understanding VATRE 2026.
