HEB ISD Families,

Thank you for sharing your households’ unique experiences with us through our survey earlier this month. We have posted those important results on our website, so you can see the data that is helping to guide our decision-making:

The June survey results showed 73 percent of HEB ISD parents said they are comfortable with their child returning to school, 81 percent of staff were comfortable returning, and 89 percent of students preferred in-person school. The most current guidance from the Texas Education Agency and public health officials allows our district to accommodate these preferences and provide an option for families who may still have strong concerns due to their own unique situations. ➡️ When we return to school in August, HEB ISD will offer both face-to-face and online instruction. ⬅️

Today, Governor Abbott announced schools will reopen for face-to-face instruction with minimum restrictions. HEB ISD will put protocols in place for the safety and health of both students and staff. We will continue planning, implementing, and sharing about these protocols throughout the summer, as national best practices are developed and public health officials continue announcing recommendations for schools.

Online instruction this fall will be robust and will include expectations, guidelines, and accountability to empower our students, parents, and staff. We have purchased a Learning Management System, and are already designing an online instructional model that ensures all students make adequate progress in mastering the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.

We are working through the summer to prepare education opportunities that will empower HEB ISD students to excel. We will share more details of our Return to School Plan in the weeks ahead, so your family can make informed decisions for online registration in July.

The 2020-2021 school year will be unlike any school year we have experienced. It will take all of us working together to continue providing the high level of educational opportunities for which the HEB ISD community is known.

Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District

As one of the most diverse school districts in the nation, HEB ISD has long valued the importance of recognizing and respecting diversity. Social injustice of any kind has no place in our classrooms or anywhere in our school district.

I believe HEB ISD must be a safe and inclusive environment for all students and staff. We cannot remain silent and we will stand against hate, intolerance, and racism.

Our HEB ISD family must stand together to set this example of compassion, dignity, and respect for our staff, our students, and our community.

Congratulations to Karenia Winnie, Bellaire Elementary Teacher of the Year!

"What is most impressive about Mrs. Winnie is her craft of knowing how to respond to students' needs. Mrs. Winnie has been at Bellaire for the past two years. However, in no way, has her short tenure here stifled the strong positive influence on her students and the Bellaire family." - Katina Rhodes, Bellaire Principal

HEB ISD staff and administrators have been working tirelessly to plan the best Class of 2020 graduation celebrations we can in these unprecedented circumstances. We have reviewed many types of celebrations planned by local and national schools.

Yesterday, Texas Education Agency Commissioner Mike Morath released new graduation guidance. We are now reviewing our plans in light of this new information. As soon as our plans are reviewed and complete, we will be sharing the details with you. Our goal is to get that announcement to you as soon as we can, in the next couple of days.

To our seniors and seniors’ families, thank you for a few more days of patience. Everyone, especially our principals, is pushing at every turn to find the best ways to balance safety with creating memorable experiences to celebrate our seniors.

It is now Day 2! We are so so thankful for our teachers! 💜💜💜

This means HEB ISD facilities will be closed and all events/activities canceled through the end of May; remote learning and meal service will continue.

👉Closure extended until May 4th !

(posted in the afternoon of March 31)

Texas Governor Greg Abbott amended his Executive Order calling for all schools to remain closed in the state of Texas until May 4th. This means HEB ISD facilities will be closed and all events/activities canceled until May 4; remote learning and meal distribution will continue.

Governor Abbott was joined by Texas Department of State Health Services Commissioner John Hellerstedt, MD, Texas Division of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd, and Texas Education Agency Commissioner Mike Morath. The Executive Order for Texas mirrors an announcement recently by President Donald Trump.

“Now is not the time to let up our distancing efforts,” Governor Abbott said. “Now is the time to redouble our efforts to make sure we do more to stop the spread of COVID-19.”

Although HEB ISD has been following the recommendations of the Tarrant County Health Department, this new Executive Order officially extends the District’s April 17th closure announcement.

Today Texas has 3,266 cases in 122 counties with 41 deaths. A total of 42,922 Texans have been tested, which means less than 10 percent have tested positive. In Tarrant County alone there are 273 cases, 8 people who have recovered and one death. The US now has more than double the number of COVID-19 cases as China and leads all other countries with 163,539 cases. Health officials here are projecting the state’s COVID-19 cases to peak around May 1. The Governor reported that only 2.4 percent of the state’s available hospital beds are currently being used.

District playgrounds are closed and we encourage families to stay home, avoid contact within six feet of other people and follow social-distancing directives for essential activities only as outlined by city, county and state officials.
