Airport Runway Update

Despite strong public opposition, the Lake County Forest Preserve Planning Committee voted to support a key approval known as the De Minimis Letter, moving the new runway proposal forward. The proposal now moves to the full Lake County Board for a vote on June 10.

We're two weeks out form our June General Chapter Meeting! Because of Father's Day, we will be moving our meeting back one week but will resume our regular 3rd Sunday of the month on July 19.

This meeting we will be hosting another DSA 101. All (especially newcomers) are welcome as we'll be giving an overview of the Democratic Socialists of America, our current projects with Lakefront DSA, and concepts like socialism that fuel our movement.

Join us at the Fremont Public Library in Mundelein, IL Sunday, June 14 from 3:30-5pm in the community room.

We're happy to celebrate another great Waukegan Pride Festival! We got the chance to meet many new community members and had important conversations about empowering the working class.

Lakefront DSA will also have a table at Lake County's Pride Festival in Round Lake Beach on Sat 6/20. Come say hi and pick up some buttons or physical editions of our Lakefront Free Press articles!

We'll be at Waukegan's Pride Parade and Festival today 5/30! The parade starts at 2pm will run along Sheridan Road from Douglas Ave to Grand Ave. The festival will be at the Waukegan Harbor (55 S. Harbor Pl.) from 3-9pm. Come support the parade and say hi at our table! 🌹

Across the globe, workers gather to celebrate International Labor Day on May 1st. America is an exception, celebrating Labor Day on the first Monday in September. International Labor Day has its roots right here in Illinois history, and as with much of labor history there has been a concerted effort to distort and bury its roots. ..
In 2026 we find ourselves in an era of labor relations where the owning class thinks that they can get away with stripping back the protections that our ancestors died for. The 8-hour work day, 5 day work week, workplace safety protections and even child labor laws are all under attack, and we in the labor movement cannot let what our ancestors fought for slip through our fingers. This is why it is important to remember the struggle of those who came before us, why we must never stop telling their stories and learning from their efforts. The martyrs are buried in the Forest Home Cemetery in Forest Park.

Join Lakefront DSA next Thursday, May 21 for a screening of The Voice of Hind Rajab by Watermelon Pictures. We will be viewing at the Waukegan Library in the Ray Bradbury Room at 6pm. There will be a discussion afterwards using a conversation guide created by The People's Center for Palestine. Free entry.
