Congratulations to Abbey Ball for this award and recognition! Well deserved! Our Town staff is the best!

We are so excited to announce the recipients of the 2026 Women in Business Awards. With nearly 30 nominations, it was another tough choice for the selection committee.

The Women to Watch awards are given to 3 deserving women between the ages of 21-39 with an impactful future ahead of them in their professional pursuits. This year's recipients are Elizabeth Hamrick with South Piedmont Community College, Keyua McElveen with Wingate University, and Whitney Ross with State Utility Contractors, Inc..

The Women of Influence awards recognize women who have made a significant impact on their workplaces and communities. This year's recipients are Abbey Ball with the Town of Indian Trail, NC - Government, Linda Smith with Union Diversified Industries, Inc., and Dr. Melita Mitchell with the Union County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

Even with the rain over the past month, we're still in a drought. For those of us on wells, it can be stressful knowing how close we are to running out of groundwater. Thankfully, the state NCDEQ has map and graph for that.

For reference, elevation at Indian Trail Town hall is 686 feet. You can find your elevation using the county GIS maps or figure that the lowest elevation in Indian Trail is about 600 feet.

From NC DOT:

The public has a new way to keep tabs on transportation projects that are underway or upcoming, whether they are in a nearby neighborhood or across the state.

The N.C. Department of Transportation recently launched an interactive online tool called Projects Near Me, where people can explore a map featuring a wide range of state transportation project data. https://www.ncdot.gov/projects/ProjectsNearMe/default.aspx

The map is searchable by address, making it easy to find projects near any location, and by project identification number in the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). It can also display projects by county or NCDOT Highway Division.

Additional filters allow users to search the map by project type — aviation, bicycle and pedestrian, bridge and structure, ferry, highway, public transportation, rail, and other miscellaneous projects. The map can also display indicators for projects that are of high public interest, have public engagement, or are future projects.

Users can click on any map pin to display more project information, including a local map and description of the work, milestones for those that are committed for funding in the current STIP, and contact information.

The data behind the Projects Near Me map is subject to change as projects evolve. The map does not feature data on travel impacts associated with current transportation projects.

People should continue to use DriveNC.gov as the trusted source for real-time traffic information across North Carolina. https://www.drivenc.gov/
