As a reminder to get out and vote on May 5th, we will be introducing you to some of the Republican candidates. Please remember to educate yourself about your candidates and make an informed decision.

We introduce you to Ric Hertel, running for Ripley County Prosecuting Attorney.

For over 27 years, Ric Hertel has served as the Ripley County Prosecuting Attorney establishing a legacy of integrity, leadership, and strength. He has built a reputation for doing the right thing at the right time for the right reasons, protecting the community, and holding offenders accountable. A veteran of the courtroom, he has personally tried over 90 jury trials, handling the most complex and sensitive cases involving the most vulnerable victims in the county. His reputation as a prosecutor extends far beyond county lines, earning widespread respect across the state as the “go-to” prosecutor for complicated/high profile assignments and special appointments.

Ric is a trusted advisor to Indiana prosecutors, frequently selected to serve on state committees and boards designed to uphold the law, protect the community and serve victims of crime. Known for a forward thinking approach, he has implemented modern systems to the prosecutor’s office increasing efficiency, transparency, and evidence based decision-making.

Beyond the courtroom, Ric is a nationally recognized speaker, trainer, and teacher. He has shared his experience in multiple states, educating thousands of prosecutors and other allied law enforcement professionals on many topics including trial tactics and ethical prosecution. His passion for the profession is further evidenced by a deep commitment to mentorship, having guided a generation of law students and deputy prosecutors into successful legal careers.

While his professional influence is national, Ric’s heart remains firmly rooted in the community he has called home his entire life. Having grown up here, his service as prosecuting attorney is driven by a personal mission to protect neighbors, families and the community he has known for decades. He is a dedicated mentor to local law students and younger prosecutors attempting to ensure that the local bar maintains the highest standards of ethics and skill.

Ric’s dedication to the community is mirrored in his personal life. He has been married to his wife, Lynn for nearly 34 years. They are the proud parents of three children, Carly, Kira and Tripp. When not in the courtroom or teaching the next generation of lawyers and prosecutors, he can be found spending time in the gym or with his family.
