Today, we remember every life taken on Sept. 11, 2001, every family forced to carry an unimaginable absence and every first responder who ran toward danger as others fled. We honor the survivors and all who have lived with the lasting wounds of that day.

A quarter-century later, remembrance is more than looking back. It is a promise to carry their names, their stories and their humanity forward.

🚨 NIPSCO Update 🚨

I support the call for an investigation into NIPSCO's response and preparedness.

But we can’t stop there. I am asking for:

➡️ NIPSCO to provide a comprehensive customer-relief plan, including automatic refunds or bill credits for any improper or inaccurate charges during the outage, immediate appropriate adjustments for
customers enrolled in budget billing or a clear process for compensating ratepayers
affected by prolonged service failures

➡️Quarterly in-person reports to make sure NIPSCO is responsibly investing rate increase dollars

➡️Governor Braun to commit to working collaboratively to pass utility reform legislation

The outages in Northwest Indiana have been unacceptable, and it is clear that something needs to change.

⚠️ UPDATES FROM NIPSCO AS OF 11 AM TODAY, AUGUST 20 ⚠️

Though the lights have started to come back on in some areas of Northwest Indiana, 63,000 people are still in the dark. That is still too many of us waiting for power to be restored, and my heart goes out to all those who are still affected.

Below are the most recent estimates on when communities in our region will see at least 95% restoration:

I am continuing to seek updates and answers from NIPSCO, as next Tuesday is far too long for anyone in our region to remain without power, especially our elderly, sick and families with young children.

Once the power is back on, we can more holistically continue recovery efforts and begin discussing how we can prevent something like this from happening in the future.
