Indianola Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center

These are unprecedented times, and the safety of the public is our top priority. After monitoring and evaluating the potential guidelines for operation of the aquatic center from the CDC, Iowa Department of Public Health and the National Recreation and Park Association, the City of Indianola has decided that Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center will remain closed for the 2020 season. This decision was not taken lightly and several factors weighed in on the final decision.

Full refunds will be issued to all who purchased a pool pass, registered for swim lessons or reserved the facility within the next 4-6 weeks.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day. The week in which that date falls is designated National Police Week. Due to COVID-19, the annual events that occur in Washington, D. C. during Police Week have been canceled. In 2019, 146 officers were killed in the line of duty due to various reasons. Over 24,000 peace officers have their names etched on the Memorial Wall, including former IPD Ofc. William E. “Pop” Hickman. We ask that all flags fly at half-staff through Saturday, May 16th in honor of those who sacrificed all.

Over the past week, the City has received numerous complaints regarding tall grass and weeds. The City of Indianola requires that grass and weeds stay under 6 inches in height. Grass typically grows between 2 and 6 inches a week, depending on weather, so a good rule of thumb is to make sure your lawn is mowed once a week.

To submit a complaint to the City regarding tall grass and weeds, please visit: https://www.indianolaiowa.gov/544/Requests-Complaints
