Beginning Sunday, October 24, 2021, everyone will be required to include the area code when dialing any phone number, not just long-distance. From any telephone (work, home, cell), you will now dial the full 10-digit number for local calls and adding 1 before any long-distance calls. Amazing amenities like the Des Moines Metro Opera 🎭, National Balloon Classic, and the Warren County Fair are more than just a good time—they also contribute millions to our economy. In 2019 alone, visitors spent about $14 million, which is money that supports local businesses and funds public services.

And the infrastructure we have to host these events is enabling us to host even more in the future! For example, the field used for the National Balloon Classic was repurposed this fall for the sold-out Knotfest concert, drawing 30,000 tourists. 🎸

Today, crews on the Downtown Square Reconstruction Project began sidewalk removal along the north side of Salem Avenue between Buxton Street and B Street. As sidewalk work progresses through Phase 1, please be aware of short-term sidewalk closures and pedestrian detours. Crews on the project have been in contact with all business owners regarding this portion of the project, and accommodations are being made to assure all businesses can have access for the public. Please be aware that some of these accesses may occur through a back/side door for a short period of time. We appreciate everyone’s patience while we move closer to the end of Phase 1 of the Downtown Square Reconstruction Project.
