Pick Up The Parks

Pick Up The Parks On seven Saturdays in April and May 2017, the Monroe County Department of Parks and Cascades Recovery will host the 8th annual “Pick Up the Parks.”

The 8th annual Pick Up the Parks Event is Saturdays during Spring 2017. From 9 until 11:30am- Trash & debris cleanup in a few parks each Saturday

From 11:30am until 1pm- Thank-You Picnic at one location each week

Join the Monroe County Department of Parks and Cascades Recovery for “Pick Up the Parks.” This great parks stewardship event will cover all Monroe County-run Parks in 2017 (a few at a

time, each Saturday) including Abraham Lincoln, Black Creek, Churchville, Devil's Cove, Durand Eastman, Ellison, Genesee Valley, Greece Canal, Highland, Irondequoit Bay West, Lehigh Valley Trail, Lucien Morin, Northampton, Oatka Creek, Ontario Beach, Powder Mills, Seneca, Tryon, & Webster Parks. Special thanks to these organizations that have already been instrumental in supporting this upcoming event: Cascades Recovery; Starbucks; Water Education Collaborative/Larry the H2O Hero; Barton & Loguidice, DPC; Bay Creek Paddling; Delta Laboratories, Inc.; Geo-Cachers of the Rochester Area; Irondequoit Conservation Board; and Riga Recreation Department.

Thanks to GROC for serving as Site Hosts at Tryon Park for the 8th annual Pick Up The Parks Event. They got a lot of trail work done in addition to picking up trash and debris.

Thanks to Park Ave Bike Shop for sponsoring the first Love Your Trails event of 2017 at Tryon Park! Not to mention a big "thank you" to all of the volunteers!

Great turnout today! We had about 30 hearty Volunteers at Tryon, 30 here at Ellison, 20 at Abe Lincoln, 20 at Irondequoit Bay Park West, and a few at Lucien Morin

Today is the final day of the 8th Annual Pick Up The Parks Event! We are covering Abraham Lincoln Park, Ellison Park, Irondequoit Bay Park West, Lucien Morin Park, and Tryon Park. Ellison is getting some great TLC. It has taken quite a hit this spring with flooding and the wind storm.

With one more Saturday of Pick Up The Parks to go, here are the stats so far... 3,620 pounds Total: April 15th- 400 pounds (Black Creek, Churchville, and Oatka Creek); April 22nd- 1,200 pounds (Genesee Valley and Highland); April 29th- 520 pounds (Webster); May 6th- 1,500 pounds (Durand Eastman, Mendon Ponds, Ontario Beach, and Seneca). This Saturday, we have Abe Lincoln, Ellison, Irondequoit Bay West, Lucien Morin, and Tryon.

Here are a few pictures of today's haul from Seneca Park and Durand Eastman Park. Amazing and frustrating all at the same time. Thanks to Boy Scout Troop 356 from West Irondequoit for site hosting at Seneca, Delta Environmental for hosting at Durand Eastman , and the Lower Falls Foundation for hosting at Ontario Beach Park.

There is still time to join us at Durand Eastman, Ontario Beach, Mendon Ponds, or Seneca Parks. Meet our site hosts and 9 o'clock for coffee from Starbucks, and snacks from Wegmans. Then join us for the thank you picnic at Seneca Park at 11:30 , compliments of County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo and Chefs Catering.
