The week aims to educate the public, challenge misconceptions, and foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for individuals with invisible disabilities.

October 12: Indigenous People's Day
Indigenous Peoples’ Day is celebrated on the second Monday of October, to honor the cultures and histories of the Native American people. Although the day was still considered Columbus Day up to 1937, many people began calling it Indigenous Peoples’ Day to celebrate the rich culture and the lives of the Native American people. The day is centered around reflecting on their tribal roots and the tragic stories that hurt but strengthened their communities.

October 11 is National Coming Out Day
National Coming Out Day continues to raise awareness for individuals within the LGBTQ+ community, and champions the idea that homophobia thrives in silence. On this day, many people who identify as LGBTQ+ will “come out” to friends or family about their sexuality. It’s also a chance to celebrate the liberation spirit — by waving flags associated with LGBTQ+ groups or donning pins or other items.

On Saturday, October 10, Orange County will come together in Downtown Santa Ana for OC Pride’s “Our Voices All Combined” Festival and Parade. More than just a celebration, OC Pride is an opportunity to recognize the LGBTQIA+ community, celebrate the many people and families who make up Orange County, and create a place where everyone can feel seen, welcomed, and included. With the parade beginning at 11 a.m. and the festival continuing throughout the day, there will be music, performances, community organizations, artists, food, and activities for people of all ages. And importantly, the event is free and open to everyone.

For our LGBTQIA+ neighbors, Pride can be especially meaningful because representation and visibility matter. OC Pride creates a space where people can celebrate who they are openly and authentically while connecting with others who share their experiences. The 2026 festival takes that commitment to inclusion even further, with dedicated spaces celebrating LGBTQIA+ families, teens, the trans community, the sapphic community, LGBTQIA+ artists, and Latino LGBTQIA+ culture.

Pride is an invitation to allies and the broader community. You don't have to identify as LGBTQIA+ to participate, listen, learn, celebrate, or show support. By bringing LGBTQIA+ people, families, friends, businesses, community organizations, and allies together, OC Pride helps build connections and a stronger sense of belonging throughout Orange County. At a time when simply knowing that you are accepted can make such a difference, events like this send a powerful community message: you belong here, your voice matters, and there is a place for you in our community.

We should never take those protections for granted—or forget what it meant when they weren't there. Irvine's history with Christina Shea’s hateful Measure N, removing sexual orientation from the city's Human Rights Ordinance, shows why continuing to build a community where LGBTQIA+ residents are treated equally, included, and protected matters.

The information from the most recently filed public 460 forms show both how much candidates have raised during 2026 and how much they have left to spend heading into the final weeks of the campaign

On Saturday, October 10, Irvine will once again come together to celebrate one of the things that makes our community so special: our incredible diversity. The Irvine Global Village Festival brings together residents from cultures around the world for a day filled with music, dance, food, art, traditions, and family activities. It’s a chance to step outside our everyday routines, meet our neighbors, and experience some of the many cultures that call Irvine home.

But the festival is about more than food and entertainment. It reflects the idea that our differences can bring us closer together when we take the time to learn about and appreciate one another. By giving people an opportunity to share their heritage and traditions, the Global Village Festival helps create a stronger sense of community, encourages understanding, and reminds us that inclusion starts with simply getting to know our neighbors.

For those of us who call Irvine home, the festival is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate what makes our city unique. Whether you come for the food, the performances, the cultural exhibits, or simply to spend time with family and friends, the Global Village Festival offers something for everyone—and provides a great reminder that Irvine is at its best when everyone has a place at the table.

It's here! We are looking forward to spending a day enjoying live music with friends, discovering new artists, and experiencing the energy that only a festival can create. Events like this remind me why we love living in Irvine. We have beautiful parks, an engaged community, and now the opportunity to host world-class entertainment right in our own backyard. If Daisy Chain Fields is a success we would love to see it become an annual tradition that continues to put Irvine on the map for all the right reasons.
